The 2022 football season is about to kick off across Oklahoma. Be sure to check out PrepRedzone.com/Oklahoma for all your Oklahoma high school football coverage. Here on Prep Hoops, we’re taking a look at some of the best dual-sport athletes in Oklahoma. For some, they’ll have brighter futures on the gridiron, for others, they’ll shine brighter on the hardwood. This is part two of a five part series, breaking down some of the top dual-sport athletes in Oklahoma as we get closer to the start of the 2022 football season.
In Case You Missed It:
Chance Wilson – 2023 Guard – Rejoice Christian
On The Court: We might not ever see Rejoice Christian 2023 standout Chance Wilson on the basketball floor again. Like Del City’s Jaedon Foreman Jaedon Foreman 6'3" | SF Del City | 2023 State OK , who’s breakdown comes later, Wilson is a D1 football commit. He committed to Montana State in the last month and there is definitely a strong possibility that Wilson graduates early and won’t play basketball for Rejoice this winter. Wilson is one of the top overall athletes in the state. He was also a standout track athlete in the spring. On the basketball court, Wilson was more of a role player for the Eagles. But there’s no doubt that where he shines best is on the gridiron and that’s where his future is brightest.
On The Gridiron: Wilson was one of the top players in the state last season at the quarterback position and he ended up being one of ten finalists for the Prep Redzone Oklahoma Player Of The Year award. He was a legitimate dual-threat quarterback as he could torch opponents on the ground and in the air. And after last week’s scrimmage, it’s apparent that he’s picking up where he left off. He threw for five touchdowns and ran for two more touchdowns in a mini game against Sperry. That’s only two quarters of football. Wilson is going to be one of the top players in the state once again this fall and it’ll be fun to see what kind of numbers he puts up as a senior.
Jaden Nickens Jaden Nickens 6'3" | CG Douglass | 2025 State OK – 2025 Guard – Millwood
On The Court: Millwood 2025 guard Jaden Nickens Jaden Nickens 6'3" | CG Douglass | 2025 State OK has already emerged as the top overall prospect in the state’s 2025 class and it was apparent every time we got a chance to see the athletic guard in action last winter. Nickens helped lead the Falcons to a state championship and the crazy part of his game was he came off the bench. We think it’s a safe bet that he won’t be coming off the bench moving forward and he could end up taking his game to another level moving forward. Nickens will have some competition at the top of the 2025 rankings over the next few seasons but Nickens could go wire to wire as the top prospect in the class.
On The Gridiron: Everything points to Nickens being the next great dual-threat athlete to come out of Oklahoma. He hasn’t even played in a game yet at the high school level but despite that, he already has multiple D1 offers after he joined the football team for spring practices in May. After talking with Millwood’s coaches over the summer, it’s clear that Nickens wants to be the best prospect in not only basketball, but in football. We can’t say much else about the Millwood standout on the football field because we still haven’t seen it. The first chance we’ll get to see him in person will be in week one when they face off with 3A power Heritage Hall.
Jaedon Foreman Jaedon Foreman 6'3" | SF Del City | 2023 State OK – 2023 Guard – Del City
On The Court: His future is on the gridiron but Del City’s Jaedon Foreman Jaedon Foreman 6'3" | SF Del City | 2023 State OK was a very important piece to Del City’s basketball squad last season. Foreman emerged as one of the top guards for the Eagles during their winning streak last season that started in the Tournament Of Champions and lasted all the way into the state tournament. He had his junior season cut short due to injury but Foreman was such an important part of the Eagles and ended up being one of the more underrated basketball players in the state. A lot of that had to do with Foreman being an absolute beast on the gridiron but he was legitimately one of the better guards for about two months last winter.
On The Gridiron: The Del City product was one of the earliest 2023 prospects in Oklahoma to announce his commitment. He’s been committed to Oklahoma State for nearly a year and because of that, he flew somewhat under the radar on the basketball court. Foreman is a borderline top ten overall prospect on the football field and has been terrorizing opposing quarterbacks for three years now. He had a breakout sophomore season and Foreman has the potential to be one of the top pass rushers in the state this fall. Del City’s defense has been one of the better units over the last several seasons and Foreman is a big reason behind that.
Ladainian Fields Ladainian Fields 6'2" | CG Del City | 2024 OK – 2024 Guard – Southeast
On The Court: We might have spoke too soon on Millwood’s Jaden Nickens Jaden Nickens 6'3" | CG Douglass | 2025 State OK being the next best dual-sport athlete to come out of Oklahoma. Southeast 2024 standout Ladainian Fields Ladainian Fields 6'2" | CG Del City | 2024 OK is a borderline top ten overall prospect in both sports. On the basketball floor, Fields is outstanding and helped lead Southeast all the way to the 5A semifinals. He had a really strong sophomore season and has done a really good job this offseason, continuing to grow his game. The Spartans are going to be a problem on the court this winter and Fields is a big reason behind it. He’ll be one of the top overall athletes playing 5A basketball this winter.
On The Gridiron: Fields had a great sophomore season on the court after having a breakout season on the gridiron. The Spartan standout was one of the top wide receivers in the state and he should be just that this fall once again. On the football field, the Spartans have struggled in the win-loss column, but Fields is still one of the top playmakers in the 2024 class and deserves more attention moving forward. We said it above and we’ll follow it up right here. Fields is a borderline top ten prospect in both sports and it won’t surprise us to see him become just that down the line. Look for Fields to have another big year at the wide receiver position.
