We will now look at some perimeter players that play solid defense and use that skill to have high upsides as prospects. These players are guys that coaches at the next level may want to take a hard look at if they want stoppers at guard positions in their programs.
Lee can be an absolute menace on the defensive end. He’s very smart about playing the passing lane and has another level of speed burst when an opponent floats a pass on the perimeter. Lee forces the offense to throw crisp passes and be sharp at all times. He does a great job not just getting the steal, but being quick to push it the other way with both the pass and the dribble.

Calvert has a reputation as a shooter, but his game can be so much more than just that. He has a ton of potential and upside as a 2 way player, the kind of athlete that’s tough for a coach to take out of the game. Calvert does a good job keeping a low base and using the strength in his legs. He can play an athletic style of defense that allows him to take chances on defense and usually make good on them.

Wiggins is another guard from Wyoming that has a ton of defensive upside. One thing is certain, it could be very hard for teams to score against Wyoming in the future. Wiggins is a fleet footed and quick defender that just doesn’t seem to go away. He can pester his opponent, breaking them down until they make a mistake.
Tuinstra is a senior that will make a large statement this year, especially on the defensive end if you ask me. He’s a sometimes underestimated overall athlete. Tuinstra’s overall strength is a huge asset for him when it comes to defense. Once he establishes a base or position, good luck to a guard trying to move him. Tuinstra has solid lateral movement that allows him to stay with even excellent ballhandlers.
