There’s some players that just really make you want to see them succeed. Calvert is that type of player. He approaches practices, camps and games with poise and class. Calvert is one of the most respectful and well mannered athletes I’ve ever come across. And the young man can play ball and run the point as well. He’s an excellent decision maker with the ball. The Olivet program got a great one.

Calvert is a guard that a lot of scouts and coaches would love to see at The Expo. He leads by example and sets a tone for his team. Calvert can play both on or off the ball and will work hard without it. He’s a willing passer that takes pride in the assist.

Calvert has long been a prospect that I’m very high on. Let’s start with the fact that he handled the ball well on Saturday and got it to it’s spots. Calvert feels the game and showed he can score and distribute. This versatility as a guard has been a big part of his game. The best part of adding him to a program might just be the intangibles. Calvert brings an aura of respect and hard work to the gym. You could see it when he took the floor on Saturday.

Calvert is an underrated point guard in my opinion. He’s what a coach needs from their floor general. Calvert is a calming force that plays a smart game, getting the ball to it’s spots in the most efficient manner. He seems to know when to share it and when to go get his. June could be a big month prepping him for high school ball. His Wyoming team can be found at GVSU and Davenport among others.

Calvert was in prime form at the Michigan State Tournament. He was a definite leader and a calming force for his United Persuit team. Calvert was the type of leader needed and wanted in crunch time. The game always seemed to go slow for him, rarely if ever forcing him to make a hurried mistake. Calvert used the pass in influence the game, showing that he could find and hit teammates in big moments.

Calvert played some really good basketball over the weekend. It was hard to really show out being surrounded by elite guards, but if you watched him play you saw what I saw. Calvert is steady, dependable and smart with his play. He reads the game and the situation with near perfection.

When people work hard they tend to get the most out of their skills. Calvert is a young man that will get the most out of what he has simply because he’s willing to work for it. He’s gone from a player that people had heard of to a guy who’s game we all definitely know. That’s through effort. Calvert has turned himself into a legitimate next level lead guard because he wanted it more than most.

Wyoming has something special brewing with this young man. He’s a solid ball handler that’s very comfortable working with his left. Calvert can break down the defense, getin the lane with the ball, and create for his teammates. He showed nice touch on his bounce pass and showed range on his jumper that extended beyond the arc.

Calvert has a reputation as a shooter, but his game can be so much more than just that. He has a ton of potential and upside as a 2 way player, the kind of athlete that’s tough for a coach to take out of the game. Calvert does a good job keeping a low base and using the strength in his legs. He can play an athletic style of defense that allows him to take chances on defense and usually make good on them.
