Last summer, Andover’s Chris Harris Chris Harris 6'6" | SF Andover | 2023 State KS demonstrated on the club scene that, although he hadn’t played any varsity ball yet that he was ready to explode on the high school level.
There are plenty of guys around the state who used the summer to prepare for a big school-ball leap. Here are a few guards who might fit that description:
CJ Brown
CJ Brown
Brown is an absolute terror on defense. He gets in a ball handler’s face and moves in a flash to cut off his every move. He creates turnovers and disrupts the flow of the opponents’ offense. He is a tough and quick dribbler who isn’t bothered by physical defense. He plays basketball a little like a soccer star, which is his other forte. He is productive and always gives all-out effort.
A heady and clever playmaker, Dow anticipates opportunities and has the athletic ability to take advantage of them. He can create his own scoring opportunity off the bounce, and he also gets the ball to scorers with his vision and pin-point passing. He’s got good hands and feet at the defensive end too. De Soto lost some players from their state tournament team, and Dow may be in position for more playing time after serving a reserve role as a sophomore.
Highlights
Garner (pictured at top) really impressed with a deep Padres team this summer, attacking with the ball and scoring effectively from inside and out. He runs the floor and is solid with the ball through contact. Garner was a nice contributor for the Wildcats last year and may be ready for a big leap this winter.
Griffin Heger
Griffin Heger
Heger has done all he could to impress the scouts at summer tournaments. He scores in bunches, heating up off his defensive production to produce runouts. He can shoot from deep or drive to the bucket for acrobatic finishes. Heger’s varsity action has been limited thus far, but he tears it up on the summer circuit and should be ready for his chance this fall. His effort is always unmatched.
Jamon Wilson
Jamon Wilson
Wilson really impressed in team competition in June, and then showed his ability to quarterback a team and make plays with SSA in July. Wilson plays with good vision and a knack to get the ball to scorers. He scores and handles the ball, and he plays tough defense too. The Scots lose four-year star Juan’Tario Roberts, and to fill that void, they could use a guard who can distribute and get his own shot.
