Here is a short list in Part 1 of The Class of 2023 prospects that stood out this summer.
6’1 G Jaxon Smith || Idaho Select || 2023 ||
Jaxon had himself a solid high school season not only hitting some tough shots that got them all the way to the title game in 5A but he was a consistent threat at all times with the ball in his hands and off the ball he quickly transforms into a spot up shooter. Jaxon has really taken to the lab and worked on his game off-the bounce. Jaxon has some quickness to his game but his IQ and overall skill with the ball in his hands has taken shape. With Idaho Select he was a do it all guard that can be on or off the ball and he was elite getting in the lne and drawing two and kicking it out to open players either cutting or spotting up. His vision has improved and his passing ability has also improved. Jaxon had a great summer.
6’7 F Isaac Garrett || Salt Lake Rebels || 2023 ||
With the lack of bigs in the class and the need for versatility at the next level with players with size and perimeter game Isaac really is a player to not only consider but watch as his game could really help a team at the next level. Isaac is a physical player that can get up and down the floor. Really like the hybrid in him because he can run down the middle of the floor and go rim to rim but he can also fill in lanes and be a threat from deep with his shooting as well. Defensively he can switch off on players and hold his own 1-5. Protects the rim and is at his best off-the ball rotating on block shot attempts and crashing the boards. This summer he has proven to be a reliable big that can also pick n’ pop.
6’7 SF Jaxon Durant || UBC Elite || 2023 ||
With UBC loaded with height and some elite guards Jaxon Durant has been consistent with his production on the boards and he is a player willing to do the little things. Jaxon is a glue guy that could help a smalls school at the next level. There are some D2’s and NAIA’s that don’t really go bigger than 6’7 and Jaxon has the game for that. He will be a diamond in the ruff. Look for him to continue to improve s well as he has opportunities to refine his skills at American Fork High School because they have so much size.
6’0 PG Yorgio Golesis || Kongo Elite || 2023 ||
Sleeper guard for sure as he displays game changing ability as he can break players off the bounce with a quick first step and a mid-range as he can elevate on those jump-shots. YG can really create and he is a player that can put up some tough numbers but he could also increase his assist because he will have weapons this upcoming high school season.
