Continue ReadingOver the last week grassroots teams from southeastern PA tipped off their Summer 2022 circuits by participating in highly competitive events all around the country. In places such as Atlanta, Atlantic City, Manheim, and Kansas City, this region’s grassroots squads took on the best competition the nation has to offer and held their own.
Below is a review of several prospects from southeastern PA (and beyond) who impressed with their outstanding play on grassroots circuit this past weekend.
17U (2023s)
Alassane Amadou Alassane Amadou 6'9" | PF SCH Academy | 2023 State #188 Nation PA – 6’9” / SCH Academy / Philly Pride National / Small Forward: Amadou’s skill set has taken significant steps forward at both ends of the floor. He has always been a long and athletic prospect with hops who could catch lobs in transition. But his improved half-court game and perimeter shooting have turned him into one of the top 2023 prospects in the region. Additionally, Amadou now plays with a noticeable edge to his game. On defense, his improved positioning and awareness of rotations has made Amadou a defensive force. At UAA Session III (Georgia) he averaged 12.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 32% from deep. Amadou scored a tourney high 22 points vs. Riverside Hawks (NY). He holds numerous DI offers including ones from Maryland, VCU, Cincy, Miami, and Marquette.
Matt Mayock Matt Mayock 6'4" | SG Westtown School | 2023 State PA – 6’4” / Westtown School / We R1 / Combo Guard: On a roster that features Kenny Jackson Kenny Jackson 6'3" | PG #23 Nation PA and Thomas Haugh Thomas Haugh 6'9" | SF Perkiomen School | 2023 State #117 Nation PA , it is easy to overlook Mayock. But Mayock (committed to American Univ.) has carved out a nice role for himself on this squad as a high-level 3-point shooter. He can be especially effective in pick-n-pop action and as a trail shooter. His improved ability to get buckets off dribble-drives has made Mayock a more well-rounded scoring threat. This past weekend Mayock’s outstanding play helped We R1 17s to a 5-1 record at UAA Session III (Georgia).
Dinero Washington – 6’0” / Collegium Charter / 610 City-Black / Point Guard: Last week Washington was extremely impressive at the AC Jam Fest. Then he took his game to another level over the weekend out at Spooky Nook. This slasher style guard with electric handles sored at the rim and via floaters as he guided 610 City to their division championship at the Hoop Group Summer Jam Fest (Manheim, PA). Plus, Washington’s jump shot was automatic from any spot on the floor. Washington rarely forces an ill-advised shot and is a willing distributor. At the other end, his quick hands and impressive lateral movement enable Washington to be a menacing defender.
16U (2024s)
Ryan Nealon – 6’1” / Abington Heights / NEPA Elite-Coyle / Shooting Guard: Nealon’s reputation as a lights out three-point shooter proceeds him. Back in April Nealon further cemented that rep by dropping 30 points (7 triples) in the first half of a game. Here in July this shooting guard prospect shows no signs of letting up. At the Atlantic City Jam Fest, Nealon “played up” with NEPA Elites 17s and knocked home 6 of 7 threes in a win over United NJ. Nealon’s endless off ball movement and court awareness allow him to consistently find the spaces in a defense. His quick trigger and logo distance range allow Nealon to capitalize on even the slimest perimeter opening.
Ahmad Nowell Ahmad Nowell 6'0" | PG Imhotep Charter | 2024 State #36 Nation PA – 6’1” / Imhotep Charter / Team Final EYBL 17s / Combo Guard: Nowell continues to “play up” with Team Final 17s (one of the most talented squads in the nation) and have a tremendous impact. At Nike EYBL Session 4, Nowell was one of the top guard prospects regardless of graduate year. He scores the rock at all three levels, can play a finesse or physical style of ball, and runs the court with poise well beyond his years. Plus, he possesses many of the intangibles college coaches love. Nowell helped TF to a 5-1 record by averaging 13.5 points and 3.6 rebounds per game on 38% shooting from deep. At this high-profile event Nowell posted games of 19 and 24 points.
Tim Rahill Tim Rahill 6'1" | SG Council Rock South | 2024 State PA – 6’0” / Council Rock South / PA Royals / Combo Guard: Rahill is a silky-smooth shooter who can drain jumpers from anywhere on the floor. He is an extremely effective catch and shoot prospect. Rahill also possesses solid handles so when he is chased off his spot, Rahill can use the bounce to find a new opening. At the HG Summer Jam Fest, he posted a scoring line of 17.3 ppg. while shooting 52% from deep (12 made threes). Rahill dropped a tourney high 23 points in the Royals win over the Mt. Pleasant Bulldogs.
15U (2025s)
Kasey Fleming Kasey Fleming 6'3" | SG George | 2026 State PA – 6’2” / LaSalle CHS / Philly Revolution / Shooting Guard: Fleming is a two-way prospect who frequently uses his strong defensive efforts (steals / deflections) to produce buckets at the other end. When on offense, Fleming’s primary scoring method is splashing home open threes at a high clip. As a bonus to his defense and perimeter shot making, Fleming has the dribble drive skills to navigate through traffic for a lay-in. This past weekend, Fleming helped the Revolution (4-0) defeat Team Final in the Summer Jam Fest HGSL division championship (OT win). Fleming and his Revolution 2025 teammates are now 8-1 over their last two tourneys.
Ben Rill Ben Rill 6'8" | PF Central York | 2025 State PA – 6’8” / Westtown School / York Ballers / Power Forward: The move from Team Final back to York Ballers has worked exceedingly well for Rill as he is now a top offensive option. This versatile lefty with length posted another outstanding weekend at the Summer Jam Fest (Manheim, PA). He tipped things off with double-double in a win over Crown Basketball. Then he recorded 18 points and 6 rebounds against New Heights (NYC). Rill’s height, wingspan, handles, foot speed and shooting touch make him a matchup problem.
