2023 6-7 PF Dameon Ely – New Mexico D1
Ely quickly caught my eye in Game 1 of the day, posting 10 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. He’s a ferocious rebounder that snags caroms away from opponents. Dameon is a smooth finisher inside and has good footwork down low, scoring on a pair of up-and-unders.
2023 6-5 W Damani Barley – NEBC
The length and versatility shone through vs. New Mexico D1, collecting 20 points, 9 rebounds and 1 assist. Barley is a long, wiry guard that can help play 1-3. He’s a herky-jerky driver that can be elusive to stay in front of. His jump shot is a bit unorthodox, but he sank a pair of threes and shoots it well enough to have the defense extend out to guard him. Damani’s motor helps separate him from other big guards.
2023 6-5 W Aiden Klosky – E2E Elite
Unlisted on the roster, Aiden Klosky had even the referees asking who he was. Klosky is a smooth lefty that knows how to get to his spots. He’s got a quick release and has the size to shoot over most defenders. Before he went down with an injury, Aiden put up 16 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block. He torched the defense from the corners and finished through contact when getting to the hoop.
2023 6-6 F Shedrach Makanjuola – HBSA
Shedrach Makanjuola is a hard playing forward that loves to attack from the high post. While he can hit the occasional jumper, Shedrach’s top priority was attacking the rim. He’s got a quick first step that can beat most opposing bigs downhill. Makanjuola has lean muscle on his frame and a competitive spirit in the paint. He tallied 19 points, 5 rebounds and 1 steal vs. Minnesota Heat MacDonald.
2023 6-6 W Josh Ofori – Minnesota Heat MacDonald
There are Swiss Army Knife traits in Josh Ofori’s game. The combo-forward shares time in the paint and on the perimeter. He’s a solid three-point shooter and is efficient around the rim. Ofori is a capable defender that can switch easily in pick and rolls. He hit a pair of threes en route to 11 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal and 2 blocks.
2023 6-2 PG Myles Barnette – Minnesota Heat PVR
Myles Barnette is a true point guard. He thrived at getting into the lane and kicking out to open shooters. He’s a big guard, strapped with muscle and knows how to use it to his advantage. Barnette turns corners to get two feet in the lane almost at will. When he did decide to score the ball, the pass-first point guard found his points on floaters and drives, finishing with 9 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists.
2023 6-4 F Reid Harriss – Illinois Bears 2023 Gunter
I really liked Reid Harriss’ skill set in a 63-43 win. The lanky stretch forward can exploit mismatches in the defense. He shoots the three accurately but is also good inside, scoring with either hand. Reid is deceptively quick on his feet, able to get off the ground for rebounds and can get to the rim off the dribble. Harriss is a difference maker on defense as well as a shot blocker. Reid had 15 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 blocks in an impressive tournament opener.
