College coaches filled the stands of McBride high school to watch 80 prospects showcase their skills in the one-day event. We were in attendance for all of the camp games and here are some of the standouts we watched.
Alvin Baez Alvin Baez 6'3" | SG Cranston East (RI) | 2023 State NLG , 2023, Scotland Campus (PA) – Baez plays with a motor and toughness that few other players could match throughout this event. The 6-foot-4 guard/wing is a physical driver and finisher whose strong frame, combined with his springy athleticism, made him a productive scorer in the painted area and in transition. Baez’s biggest strength was his ability to slash through the lane on fast breaks or in the half-court for high percentage baskets.
Carter Gittens Carter Gittens 6'5" | SF Sunrise Mountain | 2023 State AZ , 2023, Sunrise Mountain (AZ) – The 6-foot-5 wing showed his versatile scoring ability as his smooth three-point shot off the catch opened up driving lanes which he drove through and finished with authority around the basket. Gittens’ size, frame, length and fluid athleticism are all college ready and his defensive potential is through the roof.
Daniel Jacobsen Daniel Jacobsen 7'2" | C Brewster Academy | 2024 State NLG , 2024, La Cueva (NM) – Jacobsen is a legitimate 7-footer who has a good set of hands and feet to go along with soft touch with either hand around the basket. The rising junior is mobile in transition, changes ends of the floor quickly and has the coordination and dexterity to catch, gather and finish at the rim in one motion. Jacobsen impressed with his ball skills, flashed perimeter shooting touch and made a handful of effective back to the basket moves.
Drew Kingery Drew Kingery 6'4" | SF Indianola | 2023 State IA , 2023, Indianola (IA) – Kingery’s no nonsense approach to the game led to productive games out of the rising senior wing. At 6-feet-4 with a strong frame and some pop in his athleticism, Kingery was an effective transition scorer both when filling the lane or leading the break himself. In the half-court setting his ability to knock down perimeter jumpers helped open up the floor for him to drive into lane and create shots for himself or teammates. Kingery’s activity made it tough for opponents to keep him off the offensive glass.
Isaac Garrett Isaac Garrett 6'8" | SF Pleasant Grove | 2023 State UT , 2023, Pleasant Grove (UT) – Garrett had an impressive all-around effort at the Premier 80. The 6-foot-6 wing/forward has a “do-it-all” type of game where he can score from multiple spots on the floor from three-point range to pull-up jumpers and transition buckets at the rim. Garrett is also a high IQ playmaker and passer first step and vision helped him probe the lane, draw extra defenders and make the right read to an open teammate.
