PH NorCal is in Vegas to see NorCal Prospects, this seemed like a good time to catch some games at the Bigfoot-WCE Showcase event at Spring Valley High School, before NorCal begins on Thursday. There were 10 showcase games, we took in a couple. Here’s a few standouts we noticed.
Kean Webb Kean Webb 6'10" | C American Fork | 2023 State UT 2023 6’11 PF of UBC Elite 17U, Dixie HS, Utah
A legitimate post player with a patented back down jump hook he uses to produce points on the low block. He positions himself well to back down his defender with the dribble, then he’ll use all of his 6’11 body for the jump hook move that goes in regularly. He makes good use of the back-board using it to finish with a soft touch and both hands on either side. He showed he could step, and out to hit the 3ptr.
Kaden Erickson 2023 6’3 SG of UBC Elite 17U, Syracuse HS, Utah.
Erickson plays a solid all-around game. He moves with confidence and does his damage in the flow of the game. He has a quality set of skills for the guard position. He’s a good passer with vision to spot open players going to the basket. He can get aggressive and go into scoring mode using his dribble drive mid-range jumper that’s pretty consistent going to his left or right.
Jaxon Durrant 2023 6’7 W/F of UBC 17U, American Fork HS, Utah
He’s a long wiry prospect stronger than he looks. He lights up when taking it to the hoop in transition. He runs hard and finishes strong using his length, and either hand around the rim, dunks included. He’ll use his dribble at the top to attack the paint. He moves, and cuts to the basket from different angles. He’ll defend in an out.
Bubu Benjamin 2023 6’7 SG of Genesis Basketball 17U, Edge School, Calgary.
Benjamin was one of the better players in the gym on this day. The 6’7 athletic prospect moves that way. He has the skill set that says he can score in as many ways as needed. His all-around game includes rebounding, then pushing with speed and vision. he has the handles and strength to go by most from different angles on the court. He has deep 3 range. He can guard multiple positions. He’s a name we’ll be looking for.
Xavier Spencer 2023 6’2 PG of Genesis Basketball 17U, Edge school, Calgary.
He’s a big thick point guard with all the tools necessary to effectively run an offense at the next level. He knows when to speed things up and he can settle the team when needed. His ability to get into the paint for points whenever he wanted was noticeable. He threw lobs, fed the post, found cutters, and used his mid-range in the open court.
