Hardwood Sunflower Showcase: Saturday/Sunday Notebook

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The second Live Period is finished and with a ton of programs shutting down for the summer and after logging in a ton of hoops at Hyvee arena at the Hardwood Classic: Sunflower Showcase, here are some observations of some of the different types of performances and players we saw on display from KS from Saturday and Sunday.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Shooters Shoot</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1080181' first='Kellan' last='Simoneau'],<strong> 6'2 PG, Buddy Buckets KS, 2023 (Pictured): </strong>Shot it really well throughout the weekend and his quick compact and smooth form was on display off the catch, bounce, and the foul line. Gets shot ready extremely fast and consistent in his approach. Always really efficient in his scoring ways and it was more of the same throughout the weekend portion of the Hardwood. Showed off some athleticism as well at the rim on offense and blocking some layups in transition. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1496162' first='Ben' last='Webb'],<strong> 6'2 G, Team Yobo, 2023: </strong>On Saturday night he had the flame thrower out absolutely torching the nets inside of Hyvee Arena. Really adept at moving without the basketball and relocating in quick deliberate movements to create separation. Plays with a great feel for the game and getting to his spots and hit 6 threes on Saturday night to help blow the game open for his squad. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1461341' first='Logan' last='Sullivan'], <strong>6'3 SG, MoKan Select, 2024: </strong>The long guard is as consistent a shooter as they come and compliments playmaking guards or good post players really well with his ability to stretch the floor and we saw that Saturday. Showed he can get in rhythm in transition, off multiple screens, or off ball screens and knock down perimeter shots with consistency.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Stuffing the Stat Sheet</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1378443' first='Wyatt' last='Lewis'],<strong> 6'1 PG, MoKan Select, 2024:</strong> Really high IQ point guard that tailors his game to whatever is necessary to win ball games. Really active defender and vocal on that end, rebounds it from the guard spot well, can get into the middle area and facilitate or score, a solid perimeter shooter, and has solid court vision to find teammates for open looks. Nice athletic guard that is paired with a great sense of the game and he has a really good Saturday. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1212149' first='Jace' last='Steinmetz'],<strong> 6'3 SG, SSA Elite Black, 2023:</strong> Continues to piece together a tremendous July and his stock continues to rise amongst viewers and college coaches. Great size as a two guard with elite level shooting ability from 3 and hit some monster shots on Saturday and Sunday when his group needed them. Showed Sunday his improvements playing off drives, getting separation off the bounce, running in transition, and decision making with the ball in his hands adding 5+ assists in multiple games Saturday and Sunday.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Big Men Shine</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1378442' first='Tory' last='Homan'],<strong> 6'7 F, Buddy Buckets, 2024:</strong> A big time athletic forward who cleans up the glass on both ends with force. Goes and grabs balls up at the rim on both ends and can dive in and finish O boards with tip ins or tip dunks. Runs the floor extremely well and gets easy opportunities in transition consistently and can outrun a ton of other bigs on the floor. Had himself a stock raising weekend as a 4/5 man.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1212164' first='Dylan' last='Werth'], <strong>6'8 F, WKE, 2023:</strong> Werth's potential continues to shine as he gets more high level reps in and is poised for another good year at TMP. Really long arms, athletic, loves to run the floor, and showed off the soft touch with both hands on Saturday and Sunday. Got to watch a couple games and he is a consistent paint force on defense, offense, and the glass with floor stretching ability. Smart player who knows how to handle different post coverages and will pass out of the post when doubles come.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
