Check out my analysis on some of the top wing and forward prospects who really shined during their time on the court at the Great American Shootout July Live Period in Duncanville! There are plenty of college coaches in attendance, and some of these kids in attendance have a real chance to turn some attention their way.

[player_tooltip player_id="1270094" first="Andrell" last="Burton"] 2024 6’5 Haysville Campus High School (KS) (Buddy Buckets Kansas 16U)

Andrell really stood out during every second he was on the court, using his frame and athleticism to affect the game in every situation. On the fast break, he was great at using his foot speed and stride to out run his opponents for easy rim running looks. He made timely off ball cuts that caught his opponent sleeping and allowed him to get easy and emphatic flushes down low. He is not just a forward prospect who can finish down low, he showed an ability to switch onto anyone he wants and guarded the perimeter at a very high level. He had one play where he was guarding a forward down low, when a swing pass was made to the corner and he covered all the ground and was able to get at least three fingers on it to deflect its trajectory. I was very impressed by his ability to shut down anyone he wanted to, he showed off his ability to defend all five positions on the court. He seems to have all of the athletic tools a college coach could ever dream of, and his game is very mold-able. I would like to see him work on tightening up his handle when running the break, he kept the ball low and gave smaller guards a chance to poke at it. I would also like to see him work on sealing his opponents quicker, and keeping them on his hip so he can quickly go up for a shot down low.

[player_tooltip player_id="892165" first="Levi" last="Rutledge"] 2023 6’5 Brentwood Christian School (ATX Lockdown 17U)

Levi is a huge combo guard with a great feel for the game and high basketball IQ. He is a smooth scorer off the bounce and can do damage in the mid-range or beyond the arc. I was very impressed with how well he is making shots off the bounce, confidently rising up every time no matter the outcome of the possession the time before. His confidence in his shot from all areas around the arc was very impressive, however he is not just a stand up shooter. He is a great decision maker with the ball and has a real ability to create open looks for his teammates. Rutledge operates well out of the triple threat where he is explosive in turning the corner on his opponent. I was very impressed with the ease of which the scoring came from him in this area. He is great at finishing at the rim off the bounce, a skill that generates him a ton of easy and efficient offense. His ability to euro step around defenders and find space when there is none was very impressive. He is good at moving around contact at the rim and contorting his body to get a better look for himself.

[player_tooltip player_id="1203719" first="Sam" last="McKinney"] 2024 6’6 Johnson (Buda) High School, TX (ATX Force 2023)

Sam is a skilled forward who finishes at a very high level underneath the basket. He displayed great consistency at the rim, and finished well on either side of the basket. I loved watching him manipulate his defenders with his back to the basket. It was fun watching him work on the offensive side of the ball. I was impressed by his handle out of the triple threat, he was great at getting into the teeth of the defense with an explosive and purposeful two-three dribbles. I was very impressed by his body control when getting downhill, he knows how to contort his body to get out of the way of his opponents and getting around his defenders. Johnson is getting some real prospects on their hands in the 2024 class.

Ahmad Abualneel 2024 6’4 Plano East High School, TX (Hard Hoops 2024)

Ahmad is a sharp shooting wing with an ability to punish the defense from all three levels of the floor. He is great at using his frame to get into the defense and finish with a soft touch displaying a floater and runner, as well as a nice one to two dribble pull up. His ability to score off the bounce from beyond the arc was very impressive, and he has supreme confidence in his shot from anywhere on the floor. His scoring prowess forced the defense to focus on him, and he calmly made the right decisions and created offense for his teammates. He has continued shooting the ball at a high level, showing off the fact that any offense can be run through his shot making ability. I was very impressed with his all around feel for the game and his ability to affect the game on the defensive end of the ball. Abualneel is a name you must become familiar with.

[player_tooltip player_id="1483342" first="Ryan" last="Erdos"] 2024 6’7 TMI Episocpal (CCYA Elite)

Ryan is a massive player for such a young age, he has great size and strength that allows him to affect the other teams in the paint. He is a solid defender in the paint and really anchors the defense for his team. He is a smart player in the mid post and can back down defenders and punish them in the lane. He is a strong rebounder who is good at keeping the ball high and away from defenders. I would like to see him work on his foot speed and ability to move laterally and with a live dribble. Once he begins to add that part to his game he will become an unstoppable force to be reckoned with in the paint. I expect him to quickly develop with the amount of high level coaching available to him at TMI Episcopal!
