The 4th of July is known for being celebrated with fireworks. As I watched them explode in the sky, I had a thought. What high school basketball players are explosive, just like the fireworks that we saw over the holiday weekend? Let’s look at some explosive athletes!

[player_tooltip player_id="1077679" first="Hutch" last="Ward"] (2023, PF, Kalamazoo Central)

Ward’s grassroots season has been dubbed "The [player_tooltip player_id="1077679" first="Hutch" last="Ward"] Explosion". Is there any more fitting player to be listed here? Since the high school state playoffs began, his game has sky rocketed and has drawn in college coaches like people in lawn chairs watching the fireworks.

[player_tooltip player_id="986249" first="Caron" last="Williams"] (2023, CG, L’Anse Creuse)

Williams is fast with the ball and can make a lot of noise because of it. He can get down the floor and light up a scoreboard. Williams can put up points in big doses. Quite frankly, he’s a must watch prospect that can drop some jaws when he hits his groove.

[player_tooltip player_id="1112377" first="Tyler" last="Ode"] (2024, SG, Saginaw Heritage)

Ode has all the tools needed to be the very explosive player that he is. He’s a solid athlete that can get off the floor and he also has a jumper that can put points on board in a hurry. Ode has the strength needed to explosive when finishing at the rim as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="1223489" first="Dontez" last="Scott"] (2024, PF, Summit Academy)

Scott uses his feet to be explosive. He has a fast first step, great vertical speed and can change directions with relative ease. It’s tough for defenders to contain him, that’s why you’ll see him top 20 points fairly often next high school season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1437545" first="Chris" last="McLavish Jr"]. (2025, PG, Flint Carman-Ainsworth)

McLavish is one of the most skilled shooters and scorers in the state of Michigan. He has in the gym range and is constant threat to fire off a jumper. McLavish can change the trajectory of a game in a matter of seconds with his jumper from behind the arc.
