On Friday June 24th I attended the annual ASU HS Team Camp. It was at the Weatherup Center and at Desert Financial Arena in Tempe, AZ.

I watched some of the top teams on the day (five of the six teams ended up in the Final-4 or better of the Sunday finals in the two divisions).

McClintock won the big school division and ALA-Gilbert North won the small school division.

Here were some of the standouts I viewed:

[player_tooltip player_id="1494967" first="Dylan" last="Novak"] ALA-Gilbert North (Pictured)

A coaches son who knows how to play. The lefty has a pure stroke from mid to the 3pt line. His catch-3 comes with range and he has a quicker release. As good as he is as a shooter, his passing truly impressed me. He is a good decision maker and play maker. He will drive and kick it to a teammate and is very smart off the pick and roll game. His team was undefeated in the smaller school division.

[player_tooltip player_id="1494969" first="Owen" last="Bell"] ALA-Gilbert North

A catch shooter to the 3pt line is a fluid mover with some length and skill. He rebounds, will contest shots and run the floor. He plays up front for the smaller school but moves well like a wing.

[player_tooltip player_id="1494970" first="Noah" last="Schurn"] ALA-Gilbert North

A transfer from Perry has some game. He can catch and shoot from the 3pt line and is a very good passer. He has a sneaky burst to blow by his defender and kick it to an open shooter or finish with either hand. He has a strong upper body to absorb contact.

[player_tooltip player_id="1494973" first="Donavyn" last="Colon"] Williams Field

The top scorer for the Black Hawks. He is a very consistent 3pt shooter with range. He likes it best off the catch from the three and is a good passer. He has a stronger frame and can get to the rim. He will be asked to step up his production this season and look for him to breakout.

[player_tooltip player_id="1131992" first="Sam" last="Zanoni"] Basha

A bigger wing grew grew at least two or maybe three inches and is up to a legit 6’5. He plays on the perimeter and upfront for the Bears. He can ht the catch-3 plus bang inside to score on put backs. He makes smart reads like a guard and his fluidity has remained the same.

[player_tooltip player_id="1323290" first="Mason" last="Magee"] Basha

One of the tightest handles in the gym. He has speed to back it up and will use his left or right just as effective. He ins and out and will burst right by most defenders. He has a nice layup package but loves the floater game. His on-ball defense is tough with his lateral quickness.

[player_tooltip player_id="1064158" first="Christian" last="Warren"] Basha

A thicker build is a two-way wing. He can get downhill plus he can hit the catch-3. He has range on his jumper from beyond the arc and will defend multiple positions.

[player_tooltip player_id="1301344" first="Kingston" last="Tosi"] Millennium

Tosi seems to get better every viewing. He scores it a variety of ways. Offensive rebound put backs, inside with floaters, runners, reverse layups, catch-3’s and will score in traffic among the post players He will create a shot by himself a little but is best off the catch.

[player_tooltip player_id="992829" first="Gabe" last="Pickens"] Millennium

A pure PG who physically pounds his defenders downhill. He has super quick hands and feet to play the passing lanes and keep his opponents in front of him, He drives and will dump it off to a teammate. Pound for pound he may be the strongest kid in the AIA next season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1150822" first="Cameron" last="Holmes"] Millennium

The incoming freshman has a lot to like. From passing, skill, size and athleticism. He defends the 1-5 about as well as a you can, making him one of the more versatile AIA players already. His euro game is next level stuff. He is very shifty with the ball in his hands. He calmly knocked down a clutch FT to win 39-38 versus an older Basha team.

[player_tooltip player_id="814508" first="Andrew" last="Camacho"] Peoria

A natural bucket getter shoots it easily from deep and has a deceptive first step to get to the FT line or score through contact. His skill and IQ are so high that he sets up his defenders the entire game with ball fakes and quick thinking.

[player_tooltip player_id="1009139" first="Erenzo" last="Scroggins"] McClintock

McClintock played Great Oak from CA and it was the EJ show. It literally was way too easy. He scored 20 points just in the 1st half with downhill play, steals leading to layups, power drives, above the rim dunks and tough layups though their defenders. He has recently transferred to AZ Compass Prep.
