With the updated 2023 rankings list in VA, we have added over 40 new names to the rankings, something that is very common as it usually the junior year that players take the biggest jump. Here’s a look at part four of the new faces of players who have earned the right to be ranked in the state.

#136 [player_tooltip player_id="1409193" first="Maddux" last="Tennant"] | 6’3” SG | Battlefield

Tennant emerged as one of the top shooters in the Nova area this year while helping lead Battlefield to a state championship appearance. He has good size on the wing to get his shot off and has a quick release and great form, he sets his feet and works well off the ball to get open and he can put on the deck to attack closeouts and reset to knock down shots.

#142 [player_tooltip player_id="1483025" first="Malik" last="Stute"] | 6’0” PG | Episcopal

Stute was one of a number of transfers from Minnesota on this Episcopal team and he’s an excellent glue guy with his playmaking ability and fundamental skillset. He can knock down shots from deep and moves well off the ball to get easy opportunities, he’s strong with the ball and doesn’t turn it over and he has good vision and feel as well.

#145 [player_tooltip player_id="1255875" first="Jaden" last="Frazier"] | 6’5” SF | Riverside

Frazier is one of the best players in the Loudoun County area and possibly a little low on this list in his debut as he has a lot of potential with his physical and athletic tools. He’s long and wiry and a good athlete who can get up and down the floor, he plays with a good motor and is a good rebounder and defender and he can score it when he needs to from multiple levels.

#150 [player_tooltip player_id="1483036" first="Dareion" last="Parker"] | 6’2” PG | Menchville

Parker was a crucial piece off the bench for Menchville this year and should see more time with the way he has improved over the season and the spring. He’s a big guard who can get in the lane off the bounce and finishes well around the rim, he gets to the line often with the pressure he puts on defenses, he plays with a good motor on both ends and he can rebound well for a guard too.

#151 [player_tooltip player_id="1483033" first="Matthew" last="Shelton"] | 6’5” PF | Woodgrove

Shelton is a very under the radar prospect that is starting to tap into his immense potential as a future stretch hybrid forward. The 6’5” forward has a great stroke from deep and has the size to get his shot off with little to no space, he has good body control and is strong enough to finish through traffic and he’s a big time athlete who gets downhill and can play above the rim and isn’t afraid to put it on your head.

#152 [player_tooltip player_id="1483038" first="Aaron" last="Brooks"] | 5’11” PG | Courtland

Brooks is one of the better unknown players in the state, as the Fredericksburg area point guard has made a name for himself with his Virginia Supreme team at a few of the CBG events this year. The 5’11” guard is a walking bucket as he plays with good pace and knows how to create space to make difficult shots, he can score it in bunches and from all over the floor, he brings good energy on both ends of the floor and he can handle the pressure and run the show as well.

#153 [player_tooltip player_id="1483039" first="Tucker" last="Shifflett"] | 6’0” PG | William Monroe

Shifflett is one of the top players in the Charlottesville area especially in the public school scene, as the 6’0” point guard is a talented floor general with some moxxy to him. He’s a high IQ guard who has good vision and is always in help defensively, he can create off the bounce and make shots from multiple levels and he brings a competitive chip to the game as well.

#154 [player_tooltip player_id="999658" first="Khaleel" last="Abdullah"] | 6’1” PG | Flint Hill

Abdullah is a great glue guy at the point guard position who flat out knows how to play and makes his team better on both ends of the floor. He’s an unselfish lead guard who sees the floor and delivers passes on the money, he plays with grit and is all over the floor defensively and he’s able to put pressure on the defense with penetration while also being able to knock down shots if you don’t respect him.

#155 [player_tooltip player_id="1289393" first="Hasan" last="Hammad"] | 6’2” PG | Battlefield

Hammad was another reason for Battlefield’s surprise success and trip to the state championship, as the 6’2” guard was a walking mismatch with his playmaking ability at his size. He’s a strong kid who can play through contact and is strong with the ball, he’s crafty and able to get in the lane where he can see over defenders and delivers passes on the money and he picks his spots and can score it efficiently from multiple levels.
