Utah had an absolutely great showing at Section 7 in Arizona. There was some notable wins and some notable play by various players in Utah. There was a few matchups that we were looking forward to yesterday as Olympus took on Bishop Montgomery (CA) AND Cyprus took on Mater Dei (CA). These California programs are very well known and on paper would not compare to our school here in Utah.

Olympus 56 Bishop Montgomery 50

If this is a sign that Olympus did not lose a beat after graduating a few key pieces in last season 5A State Championship things are looking bad for other 5A programs. [player_tooltip player_id="1057020" first="Jordan" last="Barnes"] was super solid with his all-around game and controlling of the tempo. [player_tooltip player_id="1057034" first="Dutch" last="Dowdell"] was doing his thing and Olympus picked up a big time win at Section 7.

Cyprus 47 Mater Dei (CA) 34

[player_tooltip player_id="934030" first="Quentin" last="Meza"] was leading his team to a big win as he scored in double figures and [player_tooltip player_id="1057025" first="Diego" last="Mulford"] also was lighting it up from deep. Cyprus has a big signature win at Section 7 and they did it without one of their best players in [player_tooltip player_id="1257172" first="Justus" last="Jackson-Fobbs"]. They will play against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame (CA) another California powerhouse program.

Bingham struggled against a good team out of Sacramento as [player_tooltip player_id="1057035" first="Ace" last="Reiser"] and company couldn’t get stops as they are looking to usher in a new group that is young and unexperienced.

Dixie had. huge game as they beat Sunny Slope (AZ). Players to watch on their team are Joh Southwick, [player_tooltip player_id="1185179" first="Kyle" last="Lemke"] and a lot of other guards looking to play their way into the rotation.

Corner Canyon had a masterful game and one of the players that shined the most was 6’7 W [player_tooltip player_id="1056969" first="Brody" last="Kozlowski"] who had a few media reps talk to him regarding his recruiting as he was nearly a triple-double threat and he hot 5 three-pointers in a good win against Perry (AZ). Look for players like [player_tooltip player_id="934040" first="Max" last="Toombs"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1116143" first="Jaxon" last="Roberts"].

RSL Academy was impressive as they had a 40 point blowout of Seattle Prep and they got really good play from [player_tooltip player_id="1057044" first="David" last="Katoa"] and company. This team has some solid talent on their roster and next level talent as they continue to build this young program into a power.

Davis had a tough time with Liberty (AZ) as they only scored 33 points in the loss but the bright side is they are getting experience for players like [player_tooltip player_id="1272410" first="Coleman" last="Atwater"] and Zach Fisher.

Layton had a good game but just couldn’t pull it out at the end against a good team from the Orange County area in California. [player_tooltip player_id="1057041" first="KJ" last="Miller"] continues to impress but this Layton team is going to be dangerous. Probably the best team in Region 1.

Orem picked up a good win against Carlsbad (CA) and they continue to prove that their young players are redy to play now such as [player_tooltip player_id="1278444" first="Kai" last="Wesley"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1278443" first="Anthony" last="Felesi"].
