This class has some very athletic guards who are listed at the combo guard position. In this rankings review, we will take a look at the top combo guards in the class and the traits that make them high caliber talents.
Jordan Moore Jordan Moore 6'4" | CG Hahnville | 2024 State LA (Shaun Dumas Academy | 6’2″)
Moore is still evolving as a playmaker for others. However, when he has the ball in his hands, he is as dangerous a offensive threat as they come. Not many point or two guards have his quickness. His first step is lightning quick. On top of that, if he gets to the rim, he can elevate and finish with authority. Moore is also very dangerous in transition when it comes to that very thing. His ability to get to the elbows and elevate for his jumper makes him a threat at multiple spots on the floor. He really is a high quality offensive player.
Jayce Depron Jayce Depron 7'5" | CG Madison Prep | 2024 State LA (Madison Prep | 6’3″)
Depron can out-quick and out jump the majority of players who try to defend him. He is hard to guard one-on-one and the fact that he can drive past his defender or make the corner three over them gives him a huge advantage. Depron is also active in the passing lanes and can be a one man highlight if he gets a steal. Hofstra has already made him an offer to play on the next level and he should receive many more as this summer rolls along.
McKennis Savoie McKennis Savoie 6'2" | CG North Central | 2024 State LA (North Central| 6’2″)
Savoie is another player who can explode to the rim. He plays at the top of the Hurricane press and gets a lot of transition opportunities because of his quick hands on defense. Savoie can get down hill in a hurry as well. Because he is good at collapsing defenses, he can kick the ball to open shooters almost at will McKennis will have to assume some of the role and responsibilities Reginald Stoner left due to graduation. However, his offensive game and athleticism should help create other opportunities for he and his teammates to take advantage of.
Jordan Comanche Jordan Comanche 6'6" | CG Wossman | 2024 State LA (Wossman | 6’5″)
Coach Casey Jones has given a large amount of the point guard duties to Comanche and he has not disappointed thus far this summer. He is a big guard who has totally bought into the way Wossman guards people and he does that. Comanche can switch 1 through 5 on a high school floor and hold his own defending each. On offense, he can drive past some guards and elevate over others for the mid-range jumper. If that is not enough, he can spot up from three as well. His skill set has him as a top 20 player now. He has all the makings of a top 10 player in the future.
Taj Jackson Taj Jackson 6'2" | CG Ponchatoula | 2024 State LA (Liberty | 6’1″)
Jackson is a guard who can play with or without the ball and be just as effective. Part of the reason is that he is going to defend his tail off and he is going to create turnovers. He can facilitate in transition or he can be the finisher. One way or the other, Jackson is going to make things happen. When Jackson has the ball in his hands, he is hard to keep out of the paint. Because he is good at finding others or finishing, he is a tough player to defend. He is a true combo threat.
Noah Brookter Noah Brookter 6'2" | CG Soutide | 2024 State LA (Southside | 6’2″)
Brookter is a defender who is more of a facilitator in the sense that he will make the extra pass. He is very good at attacking the rim and if he does not have a clear lane, he will drop it off to the next guy. Along with getting to the rim, Brookter has a consistent baseline jumper that is almost automatic. He is at his best facilitating or scoring from 20 feet in and those traits are the keys to his success on the hardwood.
Javon Johnson Javon Johnson 6'1" | CG Bossier | 2024 State LA (Bossier | 6’1″)
No player is better at sprinting to the corner three and nailing it more than Johnson. Since his freshman season, that is what he has done. Now, as a rising junior, he is working more on driving and dishing. With Joseph Manning gone, Johnson will have to look more at getting others involved and he has done that this summer. If he improves that part of his game, the driving lanes will open up more for him. Johnson may have a monster junior campaign because of this.
Hezekiah Dantzler Hezekiah Dantzler 6'1" | CG Madison Prep | 2024 State LA (Madison Prep | 2024 | 6’1″)
Dantzler can really shoot the three. Being a legitimate threat from downtown mixed with the increased amount of playing time he should see this season and Dantzler should be one of the top combo guards in the Boot. He will have to wait until football is finished but that should be right on time for the stretch run for the Chargers.
Desa’monte Gradney Desa’monte Gradney 6'2" | CG Iowa | 2024 State LA (Iowa | 2024 | 6’1″)
The Iowa guard is a threat from anywhere in the front court because he can pass or score. Gradney can shoot from the multiple levels and he can put it on the deck. His scoring and passing combination is lethal.
Jyrin Sowell Jyrin Sowell 6'3" | SG Captain Shreve | 2024 State LA (Captain Shreve | 2024 | 6’3″)
Sowell is concentrating on basketball solely and other guards better watch out. He is a 3 and D player who can operate from the high post or the wing. Sowell gets most of his assists from the high post because he makes good reads in that spot. His strength and ability to defend multiple positions makes him an asset on the floor at all times.
