Continue ReadingThe Philly High School Live events are two of the most anticipated showcases of the annual June live recruiting period. Over the weekend Philly HS Live I packed the gymnasiums at Jefferson University and St. Joseph’s Prep with hundreds of college prospects. A number of those prospects caught our attention for the first time and now it is our duty to spread the word on those players
Below is a review of seven “New Names” from southeastern Pennsylvania who impressed us at Philly HS Live I.
Drew Corrao – 6’8” / Freshman / Archbishop Carroll / Team Final / Center: Carroll’s 2026 class is loaded with talent and leading the way is Corrao who dominates the paint at both ends. To say Corrao has a long wingspan is and understatement. So as expected, he dominates the boards, blocks shots and can score in close. But what surprises about Corrao’s skill set is that he is a fluid athlete who can run rim to rim. He also possesses reliable hands and does a decent job of passing of double teams.
Sean Curley Sean Curley 6'0" | SG Neshaminy | 2023 State PA – 6’0” / Senior / Neshaminy / Philly Pride Bucks / Shooting Guard: If you follow the Suburban One League closely, you know Curley’s name and game. But for the rest this is an introduction to a talented prospect. From chippies to the mid-range to behind the arc, Curley is automatic with the jumper. Curley is a lights out 3-point shooter with a quick trigger, so opponents should be face guarding him all over the floor. An athletic guard with a long wingspan and high basketball IQ, Curley is also a plus player at the defensive end.
Ryan Deininger – 6’2” / Senior / North Penn / PA Running Aces / Wing: This lefty can drain threes from all over the court. Deininger’s length, speed and elusive dribbling skills allow him to score in transition as well. He possesses tremendous instincts for the game combined with good court vision, so he is an excellent distributor of the rock. Deininger plays with an intensity and energy that is contagious.
Ian Hendrix – 6’3” / Senior / Holy Ghost Prep / PSB Philly / Combo Guard: The Firebirds have a hidden gem in this perimeter prospect. Hendrix can stroke the 3-ball and because of his constant off ball movement, Hendrix frequently ends up with wide open looks. When a defender closes him out too quickly, a smooth head / ball fake, then a couple dribbles allow Hendrix to get to his md-range spots. For a guard, Hendrix is a solid offensive rebounder.
Jahad Marable – 6’6” / Junior / SLA Beeber / SK Elite 17 / Small Forward: Marable owns next level speed, hops, and athleticism. To be honest he was one of the most dynamic athletes at Philly HS Live. In one stretch we witnessed Marable execute a chase down block, grab the ball off the glass, toss an outlet pass and then sprint down court for a tip in. In the half-court, Marable displayed a decent mid-range as well as the ability to slash to the cup for a catch and lay-in.
Jahseir Sayles – 6’5” / Junior / Plymouth Whitemarsh / Philly Pride National / Wing: Sayles is a long and a wiry prospect who can grab a defensive rebound, get downhill and go coast to coast. Additionally, Sayles is effective at using a few dribbles to push past a defender, then stopping on a dime and elevating for a jumper. He didn’t attempt any triples during time we watched him play, but coach Williams from his Philly Pride 2024 squad tells us Sayles, “shoots the three at a decent clip for his size.” Sayles amazing athleticism and keen basketball instincts make him an intimidating weakside shot blocker.
Jermai Stewart-Herring – 6’3” / Junior / Roman Catholic / We R1 / Combo Guard: A recent transfer from St. Elizabeth (DE), Stewart-Herring came with a huge reputation (21 ppg. & 10 rpg.; 2021-22 Diamond Conference POY) and he did not disappoint. Stewart-Herring is a superb athlete who thrives in transition and can play above the rim. In a grinding, half-court style contest, Stewart-Herring can score at all three levels. At the other end, Stewart-Herring is an intense competitor who is willing to defend for 94 feet.
