Team camp at the University of Maryland is taking place this weekend and we are in attendance to get an early look at some of the best programs in the area. We’ll start with notes from each team who took the floor in the AM slots.

St. Frances

The Panthers collected two wins against Landon and Sidwell Friends. Leading the attack was 2023 guards [player_tooltip player_id="1114066" first="Carlton" last="Carrington"] (16.5PPG) and Maryland commit [player_tooltip player_id="957025" first="Jahnathan" last="Lamothe"] (16PPG). 2025 point guard [player_tooltip player_id="1370503" first="Tyler" last="Jackson"] had his fair share of moments breaking down his defender and getting to the rim for crafty finishes. 2024 Jordan Downs is a name who has been with the program, but seems to have increased confidence and a skill set that can help him earn respectable minutes within the rotation for the winter.

Landon

2023 [player_tooltip player_id="1219879" first="Tyler" last="Perkins"] was a clear standout for the Bears and despite suffering a loss to St. Frances, the 6-foot-3 southpaw lead guard tallied 26 points. He scored from mid-range off the bounce and finished athletically around and above the rim. Defensively he moved with grace laterally and kept his matchup at bay. On a few occasions he protected the rim in transition, which further confirmed his athletic ability. Perkins holds an offer from Albany and has unofficial visits to Loyola (MD), Brown, Cornell and Albany scheduled.

Archbishop Spalding

The Cavaliers are stacked with young talent led by 2025 [player_tooltip player_id="1370513" first="Malik" last="Washington"]. The 6-foot-5 do-it-all forward scored 13 points in their win over National Christian. As usual, he contributed by crashing the glass, securing 50/50’s and making winning plays on a routine basis. 2026 point guard Kam Carter plays with a presence that is mature beyond his years. The 5-foot-6 guard has good understanding of time and score, when to look for his own scoring opportunities and how to get others involved.

National Christian

2023 guard [player_tooltip player_id="999650" first="Isaiah" last="Coleman"] has established himself as one of the best scorers in the area. The 6-foot-5 combo guard scored 17 points in the loss to Spalding, but had showcased his scoring prowess from all three levels throughout the contest. He’s at his best in isolation scenarios or in the open floor where his athleticism and burst can overwhelm opponents who are caught on their heels.

Rosedale Christian

Rosedale Christian has revamped under their new coaching staff with a completely new roster. 2023 forward [player_tooltip player_id="940476" first="Ethan" last="Goon"] will be a name to watch. At 6-foot-7, he can stretch the floor and also showed some ability to operate off of 1-to-2 dribbles. 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="1127301" first="Isaiah" last="Williams"] will fill the role as lead guard and provide an aggressive scoring approach from the backcourt. Both performed well in their commanding win over Flint Hill.

Mt. Carmel

This year’s Cougars will pride themselves on their depth and balance throughout the rotation. In a dominant win over Maret, the wealth was spread evenly. 2024 guard [player_tooltip player_id="957034" first="Tjay" last="Beckles"] found his mark from deep on his way to 12 points. 2024 guard [player_tooltip player_id="1127307" first="Andrew" last="Dixon"] had some impressive moments breaking his man down off the bounce, getting in to the paint and finishing with soft touch. 2024 wing Buddy Williams filled the lanes and finished consistently in transition, while the 2023 frontcourt duo of [player_tooltip player_id="1482974" first="Omarion" last="Reid"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1164829" first="Mitchell" last="Kalu"] held down the inside.

Sidwell Friends

It doesn’t make a difference if it’s the offseason or not, head coach Eric Singletary is going to have his team executing at both ends. 2023 point guard [player_tooltip player_id="957022" first="Cam" last="Gillus"] orchestrated his team well in a half-court setting. He moved well without the ball and knocked down multiple jumpers while curling off pin down screens. He made sound reads in ball-screen situations and found open shooters on the perimeter on paint touches. 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="1127314" first="Caleb" last="Williams"] knocked down shots with regularity from the perimeter. He was effective at moving off of Gillus’ drives to make himself available in the corners and made his defender pay for split-second hesitations on closeouts.
