In this piece we take an in-depth look at some of the standout forwards and centers from the 17U BattleCup Division.
Koa Peat, Compton Magic – Peat is one of the most talented prospects on the west coast and that’s a big statement considering he just wrapped up his freshman season. The 6-foot-8 forward has an elite all-around feel for the game with his ability to play a true point-forward position complete with playmaking for teammates off the dribble with a high IQ and creating shots for himself. Peat can shoot the three-ball with consistency and has the strength and athleticism to finish through or above contact.
Michael DeHorney, AZ Firestorm – DeHorney is a high motor, active and bouncy forward who makes his impact as a transition finisher, second-chance opportunist on the offensive boards and a high level defensive rebounder and rim protector. The rising senior is in constant motion, consistently beats his defender down the court in transition and makes the opposition work hard to corral defensive rebounds.
Noah Amenhauser, AZ Factory – Amenhauser is a legit 7-footer with a really nice skill-set for his size and position. The Grand Canyon-commit has great hands, touch and fundamental footwork on the block and can finish with either hand around the basket. What separates Amenhauser from some other young big men is his ability to consistently knock down catch-and-shoot perimeter shots.
Xinyi Li, Las Vegas Knicks – The 6-foot-9 Wasatch Academy (UT) product is a prospect who has upped his recruiting stock this spring. Li is big, strong mobile and light on his feet both inside and on the perimeter. The Knicks use him in a lot of ball screen action where his hands, feet and mobility are on full display as he can roll, catch and finish all in one fluid motion. Li has also shown pick-and-pop three-point shooting ability.
