The premier high school event of the summer, the 2022 IHSAA/IBCA Charlie Hughes Showcase, will tip-off on Friday at 4:00 p.m. with 132 teams coming to Carmel High School and Westfield High School. This showcase is absolutely loaded with the best teams and prospects that the state of Indiana has to offer. Also, with it being a live recruiting period, college coaches will be out in full force taking in the action. Our Prep Hoops Indiana staff will have boots on the ground at both locations this weekend and will be bringing preview content heading into Friday evening. First, let’s take a look at five of the marquee matchups on the schedule for Friday night.

Southport vs. Munster

When & Where: 4:00 p.m. Carmel H.S. Main Gym

Prospects to Watch: [player_tooltip player_id="868243" first="Keyon" last="Garrett-Miller"] (Southport H.S. 2023), [player_tooltip player_id="868221" first="Nickens" last="Lemba"] (Southport H.S. 2023), [player_tooltip player_id="814532" first="Brandon" last="Trilli"] (Munster H.S. 2023), [player_tooltip player_id="1275808" first="David" last="Cundiff"] (Munster H.S. 2024)

Top Storyline: What does Southport look like with [player_tooltip player_id="935723" first="Anthony" last="Dancler"] still out? As has been the case all spring and summer long so far, Dancler will be out for at least another six weeks or so as he recovers from injury. However, the Cardinals are not devoid of talent without their star guard. Miller has been one of the biggest stock risers of the spring with excellent point guard play while Lemba provides athleticism, physicality, and size around the basket.

Providence vs. Eastern Hancock

When & Where: 7:00 p.m. Carmel H.S. Blue

Prospects to Watch: [player_tooltip player_id="1273735" first="Casey" last="Kaelin"] (Providence H.S. 2023), [player_tooltip player_id="1393268" first="Jacob" last="Spaulding"] (Eastern Hancock H.S. 2023), [player_tooltip player_id="1393269" first="Silas" last="Spaulding"] (Eastern Hancock H.S. 2023)

Top Storyline: How do the defending Class 2A State Champions look? After an incredibly impressive performance against Central Noble to cut down the nets at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Pioneers return their best player in [player_tooltip player_id="1273735" first="Casey" last="Kaelin"] and are looking to go back-to-back. Eastern Hancock is a very good 2A team in their own right. This will be a potential state tournament preview.

Harrison (West Lafayette) vs. New Castle

When & Where: 7:00 p.m. Carmel H.S. Freshman/Aux Gym

Prospects to Watch: [player_tooltip player_id="1049173" first="Ben" last="Henderson"] (Harrison H.S. 2023), [player_tooltip player_id="1160680" first="Gavin" last="Welch"] (New Castle H.S. 2023), Colin Taylor (New Castle H.S. 2024)

Top Storyline: Spring stock riser [player_tooltip player_id="1160680" first="Gavin" last="Welch"] looks to continue his strong play. The 6’5" versatile forward had an outstanding spring with Kyle Guy Elite Black that turned the heads of several college coaches. He will get another chance to play in front of coaches at all levels this weekend. However, don’t sleep on 6’3" guard [player_tooltip player_id="1049173" first="Ben" last="Henderson"] has another prospect that could have a big weekend for himself.

Avon vs. Tindley

When & Where: 7:00 p.m. Carmel H.S. Main Gym

Prospects to Watch: [player_tooltip player_id="1391627" first="Daniel" last="Eck"] (Avon H.S. 2023), [player_tooltip player_id="1172872" first="Jordan" last="Lomax"] (Avon H.S. 2024), [player_tooltip player_id="868226" first="Jayden" last="Pinkston"] (Tindley H.S. 2023), Jeffrey Pinkston (Tindley H.S. 2023)

Top Storyline: The emergence of [player_tooltip player_id="1172872" first="Jordan" last="Lomax"]. There is no denying the talent that Lomax possesses. He showed plenty of flashes as a sophomore of what he can be and seems to be really rounding into his own as a prospect of late. He is super athletic, explosive off of the dribble, and has a knack for scoring the basketball. Going against the size and athleticism of the Pinkston’s, along with other Tindley players, will be an interesting test for him on Friday night.

Linton-Stockton vs. Culver Academy

When & Where: 8:30 p.m. Carmel H.S. Fieldhouse Court 1

Prospects to Watch: [player_tooltip player_id="868240" first="Joey" last="Hart"] (Linton-Stockton H.S. 2023), [player_tooltip player_id="935736" first="Logan" last="Webb"] (Linton-Stockton H.S. 2023), [player_tooltip player_id="1158180" first="Braden" last="Walters"] (Linton-Stockton H.S. 2024), [player_tooltip player_id="868239" first="Cooper" last="Farrall"] (Culver Academy 2023), [player_tooltip player_id="1272472" first="Thomas" last="Collins"] (Culver Academy 2023)

Top Storyline: [player_tooltip player_id="868240" first="Joey" last="Hart"] vs. [player_tooltip player_id="868239" first="Cooper" last="Farrall"]. Two excellent shooters who were both Indiana Junior All-Stars, Hart making the Core group while Farrall was named to the "north" squad, each of these two will lead their respective teams on Friday night. Linton-Stockton will once again be one of the favorites in Class 2A with a good stable of returning talent.
