As the month of June is coming to a close, it’s time to take a look at the prospects who used the given stages to showcase their skills and help boost their personal recruitment. For this article, we’ll stick with the 2023 MD/DC prospects that I caught in action over the course of the month.

[player_tooltip player_id="1219879" first="Tyler" last="Perkins"] | Landon

It’s been well-documented through our content the productive month of June it was for Perkins. He began by dominating at Maryland Team Camp and as a result, we bolstered his ranking all the way to No. 8. As the June Live Period wrapped up, he backed up that ranking and cemented himself as one of the best guards in the DMV. He also took home MVP honors of the DeMatha Summer League. Perkins is a 6-foot-3 lefty who can play on and off the ball. The 11 offers that he currently holds were earned in this month alone. I’d expect more programs to enter the sweepstakes as Perkins takes the floor with Team Takeover National for the month of July.

[player_tooltip player_id="1049863" first="Ace" last="Valentine"] | Mount St. Joe

Valentine ended the 2021-22 high school season in strong fashion playing a key role in the Gaels’ capturing both the MIAA and BCL titles. After making the switch to Mid-Atlantic Select for the spring, Valentine produced at a steady level and began catching eyes of LM programs. His continued success in June now has offers being thrown his way thanks to his ability to impact the game at both ends of the floor from the point guard position. He’s a dependable shot-maker, has good burst to get to the rim and has improved his approach as a facilitator in the half-court. Loyola (MD), UMBC and Niagra have all offered.

[player_tooltip player_id="957040" first="Corey" last="Chesley"] | Good Counsel

There’s no denying that Chesley has the build and athleticism at 6-foot-4 to catch attention. Even in-game, he’ll have explosive finishes that scream Division I. It was more so seeing if Chesley could put together a consistent effort at both ends for 32 minutes. He showed plenty of promise in that regard during DMV Live. Chelsey averaged 14 points per and 3.5 rebounds per game while supplying value on the defensive end thanks to his versatility. He’s at his best offensively in transition where he can utilize his above-the-rim finishing ability, but also asserted himself as a catch-and-shoot threat from the corners in the games that I caught. Chesley garnered plenty of attention throughout the two weekends and it seems like only a matter of time before the interest turns into offers.

[player_tooltip player_id="957018" first="Amani" last="Hansberry"] | Mount St. Joe

Hansberry remains at the top of our 2023 rankings, so while there’s no room to move up in that sense, he’s separating himself from the pack. The 6-foot-8 forward is a true grab-and-go threat that can lead the break and make sound decision as a distributor off the live dribble. He made plays in this given scenario on a routine basis throughout DMV Live as his 15.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game can help account for his impact. He’s taking on a Draymond Green-esque role for the Gaels and it resulted in a 7-1 record. Penn State remains in the driver’s seat for Hansberry while Illinois and Va Tech look to make serious pushes for his services within the coming months.

[player_tooltip player_id="957025" first="Jahnathan" last="Lamothe"] | St. Frances

St. Frances struggled mightily in their DMV Live experience and while Lamothe got off to a bit of a slow start, he ended with strong scoring outings in the last four games scoring at least 25 points in each of those contests. In their only win over Good Better Best Academy, the Maryland commit stuffed the stat sheet with 25 points, 12 rebounds, six steals and five assists. Much of the production load will fall on Lamothe’s shoulders along with ’23 [player_tooltip player_id="1114066" first="Carlton" last="Carrington"] (Pittsburgh) and ’25 [player_tooltip player_id="1370503" first="Tyler" last="Jackson"] if the Panthers do not add anyone significant before winter.

[player_tooltip player_id="1114027" first="Aidan" last="Harris"] | St. Mary’s Annapolis

Harris is another player who has received his fair share of content over the last month and rightfully so. The 6-foot-7 forward finished fourth in scoring at 23 points per game through DMV Live play and secured and impressive 13.3 rebounds per game as well. Now at full health, the momentum in Harris’ recruitment is beginning to shift back where it was last summer as LM programs assert themselves. Harris was offered by St. Francis (PA) yesterday while already holding offers from Quinnipiac, NJIT and Pitt-Johnstown. His blend of size, physicality and versatility give reason for more LM-MM programs to get involved sooner rather than later.

[player_tooltip player_id="957058" first="Ian" last="Robinson"] | McDonogh

Robinson put together a steady EBA Summer League with McDonogh and showcased some comfort in stepping out beyond the arc and knocking down three’s whether it be in pick-and-pop scenarios or trailing in transition. His effort on the glass has remained persistent and he seems to be developing better timing as a shot-blocker. Robinson will be leaned on heavily as the anchor inside for the Eagles this season and is attracting several Division III programs.

Kyree Smith | City

Another EBA Summer League standout, Smith has been the catalyst for a tough, gritty City squad. At 6-foot-3, he has good size as a combo guard and is at his best getting downhill where he can attack the rim and embrace contact. He still needs to put on some muscle, but he plays a physical brand of basketball that catches his matchup off guard. Operating off the dribble, Smith has good burst to gain advantages in isolation situations and has showcased decent instincts as a passer when weak side defenders slide to prohibit his clean looks at the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id="1482973" first="Jake" last="Stout"] | Boys’ Latin

Stout’s name will be on the radar of a few local LM programs for July. He’s been the primary option for Boys’ Latin and expected to score in a variety of ways. At 6-foot-7, he’s more of a tweener at the wing or small-ball four position, but his ability to stretch the floor with his jumper is what makes him valuable on the offensive end. He’s getting a better approach to using his body in the mid-range to create separation for his shot and shows some potential for growth as a play maker when working off 2-to-3 dribbles.

Connor Dubsky | Putnam Science Academy

Dubsky made the announcement that he would transfer to PSA after a weekend of DMV Live where he turned college interest into offers at a rapid rate. His scoring ability combined with his size at 6-foot-4 is something coaches believe strongly could translate at the next level and his tough-minded approach as a defender hints at a two-way impact guy for the long-term. 14 of his 17 offers came in the month of June alone and Dubsky’s name was a hot topic on the Internet yesterday specifically when he received an offer from Maryland. Now set to suit up for PSA in the winter, don’t be surprised if more power five programs begin to enter this recruitment.
