On June 9th-11th I attended the 15th annual Best in Basketball Summer Invitational at Mesquite HS. 24 teams from around the state competed for the three days. There were 22 AIA teams with two prep teams.

In this article we look at the 4th team All-Invitational from the weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id="1286159" first="Kent" last="Barnes"] North Canyon

An athletic combo guard can fly on the break. He can get downhill with a tight handle and real speed. He can hit the three but loves getting to the basket. He is one of the better disruptors on the ball. He uses his natural athletic gifts to defend.

[player_tooltip player_id="1128462" first="David" last="Franks"] Phhoenix Prep

One of the higher elevated pull-ups in the class. He lives in the mid-range game and can rattle them off one by one. He almost shoots it at the same spot at around 17-feet each time. He is fast and he has some bounce to throw it down on the break. His skill has improved steadily in the last two years and he has lateral quickness to make it difficult for opposing ball handlers.

[player_tooltip player_id="1141680" first="Bobby" last="Holcumb"] Apollo

The rising senior will be a tough handle all year long. Him and Lashy will be a dynamic duo. He can score it many ways from posting up, hitting the catch-3, giving a hard ball fake and driving to the basket to use a floater. He is a good passer in transition and active on defense.

[player_tooltip player_id="1297426" first="Adonis" last="Lafluer"] Cesar Chavez

A quick combo guard is a three level scorer. He has the catch three and uses a burst to get fo the rim. He will score through contact and he can hit from mid-range. He has a very professional approach to the game and give high effort on defense. He can play on or off the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id="1239569" first="Jaylen" last="Lee"] Phhoenix Prep

A physical wing forward who can work from inside and out. He recently got back from injury and picked it up where he left off. He can shoot the three off the catch plus get to the rim with a good handle. He is tough to grab a board in traffic and will push it in transition.

[player_tooltip player_id="993647" first="AJ" last="Turner"] Hamilton (Pictured)

An athletic combo guard has taken the reigns for the Huskies this year. He is the only one left from last years state final runner ups who played real minutes. He is playing more conservatively this year trying to get his teammates involved but he will still find his spots to score it. He can hit three plus is a tough on-ball defender. Once he is on the break he can throw it down above the rim with improving athleticism.

[player_tooltip player_id="1336443" first="Uriah" last="Tenette"] Prescott

A pure point guard with a tight handle and real speed with the ball. He throws darts to teammates consistently and can score it. He has a mean pull-up from mid-range and can hit the deep three. He will give a shot fake and burst right by and finish off some tough layups despite his size.

[player_tooltip player_id="1183310" first="Corey" last="Wood"] ALA-Ironwood

A long and lean deep shooter with real range. He has one of the better looking strokes in the class for his position. He does need to get stronger but fights hard to rebound and has some pop in his step above the rim. He can score it a little inside but loves shooting it from the perimeter.

(I will talk about the 5th team All-Invitational in the next article.)
