The Hustle Region Circuit consists of AAU Programs from California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Utah, Montana, Idaho, Colorado, and New Mexico. The circuit features 10 stops including the Hustle Region Final in Irvine July 15th – 17th. Stop 6 brings us to the Pacific Northwest and Centralia, Washington where 46 teams will compete all under one roof at the NW Sports Hub. This event was home to several high-level marksmen. In this article, we take a look at our top snipers from the event.
Parker Gerrits Parker Gerrits 6'1" | PG Olympia | 2023 State WA 6’1 CG Roots Academy 2023 (#2PHWA 2023) – Gerrits came into the event with the reputation of a big-time shooter and did not disappoint. His shooting skill can only be classified as elite. He showed range out too well past the NBA line and shoots it smoothly and without a hitch. Everything about his mechanics is good, including his shot prep and follow-through.
Luke Brewer Luke Brewer 6'2" | PG Tumwater | 2023 State WA 6’2 SG Roots Academy 2023 (#39PHWA 2023) – As good as Gerrits was shooting the ball, Brewer was almost identical. He sniped all day from the wings providing RA with a terrific 1-2 shooting punch. He was automatic in catch-and-shoot action, knocking down several threes in the game I watched.
Colten Castro SG PNW Sixers 2024 – Castro was one of the top sharpshooters at the event. What impressed me most about his shooting, was his ability to shoot the ball off the move. The wing came off several down screens and baseline flex cuts, freeing himself from defenders. He buried 4 threes in the game I watched.
Kaden Hansen Kaden Hansen 6'1" | CG Auburn | 2021 State WA 6’0 CG Seattle Stars 2022 (#25PHWA 2022) – Hansen shot lights out all weekend. The lefty has one of the smoothest strokes and was able to dominant games with his ability to change the scoreboard from behind the arc. He put on a clinic in the game I watched against BDH, knocking down 5 threes. He made a total of 14 trey’s in the 3 contests I watched.
Jackson Lusk 6’0 SG Team Anderson Elite 2023 – Lusk had one of the quickest releases of any shooter I saw at the event. He seemed to always be shot ready, playing low and with his hands prepared to catch the ball. His accuracy spoke for himself, as the sniper knocked down seemingly over half his threes. He is the type of shooter that is a threat to go on a run by himself, as several times throughout the week, the 6’0 shooting guard buried trey’s on consecutive possessions.
Jake Gabbard 5’9 PG FCA 2023 (featured image) – Gabbard darn near won a basketball game by himself. The 5’9 PG was one of the better off the bounce shooters I saw. Gabbard was deadly, knocking down side steps and stepbacks. I caught him in the midst of one of his more remarkable shooting performances as he nailed 5 threes in a 31-point performance.
Simon Nysted 6’0 SG Oly Basketball Academy 2024 – Perhaps one of the most entertaining moments of the weekend was watching Gabbard and Nysted trade bombs. Nysted was nearly flawless in the 1st half of the contest burying 5 threes for OBA. He continued his hot shooting late in the contest, knocking down a couple of clutch shots to help his squad prevail. In addition to the 5 threes, he finished with 19 to help his team to an overtime victory.
Daniel Savovic Daniel Savovic 6'0" | CG Everett | 2023 State WA CG Emerald City 2023 – Savovic could best be described as a sleeper shooter. The combo has terrific form and it felt like he never missed when shooting the ball from straight on. He is a catch-and-shoot guy with a quick release, who was money from the top of the key.
