Versus Midwest All-Stars 17u
A key to mention up top, the Midwest All-Stars did not run out many (see also any) college prospects. Consider that when reading these in-game evaluations.
- Johnson played light on his feet. He was able to get around all defenders with the dribble, but he shot very poorly from both range and mid-range. He looked capable of being a better than average slasher, but the shooting motion and effectiveness need a lot of work. Johnson’s athleticism will be much more dominating if he adds some heft, or good weight.
- Papillion played decently, as he handled the ball with composure. He played with deference, maybe too much deference. His handles and first-step quickness indicate that he could be more probing and destructive off-the-dribble. Strong court awareness.
- Deing Wang is an unique prospect. Decent size. Stands about 6-foot-6. Wang is clearly a post-player. There is no ’maybe he will morph into a wing in time.’ He will be a post player, so his evaluation must be made with that in mind. Wang’s gifts are decent rebounding, decent intensity. The opponents did not have a legitimate post-player to measure him again, but Wang collected most rebounds in his area. Despite weighing more, as a big against guards, than everyone they played, Wang challenged for several rebounds outside of his area. He is a player to keep an eye on, and Northeast is a not a program that allows stagnation, so he will be pushed daily.
- Giovanni Harris Giovanni Harris 6'0" | PG Montgomery Central | 2024 State TN is a point guard with a little promise, but he did look a little loose with the passes and decision-making against the Midwest All-Stars. The first-step quickness is nice enough. The poise with the basketball needs work though, and obviously nothing is more imperative for a point guard than stability.
