He’s a confident competitor that is planning on visiting some schools out west (among other locations) this June. Learn more about Jack today at Prep Hoops!
Five Things I Like About Jack’s game:
- Type of shooter that high major schools are looking for
- Confident, clutch player that wants the ball to lead his team to a win
- Jack’s dribble separation game sharply moving from A to B is tougher to keep in front than most
- Janicki has big play defensive ability in passing lane jumps, help over blocks, and the quick board and push/outlet
- He’s the right size at 6’4 as a shooting specialist
Janicki is playing with D1 Minnesota and thus far it’s been a strong spring with a Minnesota 17u best 20 wins overall.
“The spring got better as it went,” Jack said. “I played well throughout the whole spring, but didn’t shoot as well as I wanted, especially during live period. But I make so many other winning plays on the court, so I am happy with my play so far.”
D1 Minnesota has earned wins over Nike teams Mac Irvin Fire and The Family, Adidas wins over Colorado Hawks, Wildcats Select, Utah Prospects, Team Loaded, and Indiana Elite, UAA wins over Texas Impact 4:13 and Martin Brothers, and wins over top independent programs including Fundamental U, Full Package, Pluto Prospects, Team 1848, and Kingdom Hoops.
It’s been a very strong year at 20-5 and Jack has seen college interest pick up.
“I am hearing a lot (from) Loyola, Princeton, Santa Clara, and Harvard, Jack said. “And then I’ve also been in touch with Stanford, and a little bit with Iowa. I am visiting Santa Clara and Stanford in June for sure. Still trying to figure out another visit to Loyola, or out east to see Princeton and Harvard.”
As a recruit Jack has a very clear vision of who he is, and who he wants to be.
“I think college coaches have a difficult job in evaluating kids on a very limited sample size,” Janicki explained. “There are certain parts of my game that are hard to realize in just watching a single weekend. I think my basketball IQ is very very high, I turn the ball over at a low rate, I can guard three, maybe four positions, and I’m vocal on the court. So in a game that my impact on the stat sheet is hard to see, I do little things that a lot of high schoolers don’t like to do in games.
“This summer I am looking to become a better shooter, especially off the catch. During the high school season I’m forced to create shots off the dribble, and this AAU I’ve realized I need to improve my set catch and shoot. I’m looking to continue getting more athletic in the weight room.”
Janicki helped push White Bear Lake back over .500 for the first time in four seasons scoring 24 points a game. The Bears laid the ground work for what should be a really good 2022-23 WBL season.
“The year was super fun and the team got better as we went on,” Jack said on last winter. “I played very well this year on offense and defense. We return everyone next year. Super excited.”
