I attended the Dinos Trigonis Pangos Best of Arizona League on April 26th and May 6th at AZ Compass Prep in Chandler. AZ.

There were eight teams of players ranging from unsigned seniors to current freshman looking for off-season competition and exposure. I watched two games each day and admittedly so, I missed one of the teams plus some of the players did not show up when I watched.

Here were the 2022-2023 standouts I viewed in the two days:

2022

[player_tooltip player_id="973912" first="Tanti" last="Felli"] Phoenix Country Day

A long forward keeps making strides with his game. He committed to Johns Hopkins and he may end up a star hooper over there and then become a doctor afterwards. He dunks it easily, blocks shots, rebounds and he loves ripping through and scoring near the basket and using floaters.

[player_tooltip player_id="1066487" first="Greg" last="Anderson"] Fairfax

A tough and physical guard who has improved as a shooter. He gets downhill fairly easily and scores with his good frame. He plays a smart floor game but is more of a natural scorer and is a tough on-ball defender. He scored 21 points with three triples made.

2023

[player_tooltip player_id="814036" first="Tru" last="Washington"] Mountain Pointe (Pictured)

One of the top players in the AIA made it look really easy in both weeks. He basically did what he wanted to from scoring and making others better. His skill just keeps on getting more and more polished and this was the time around when Ty Ty started to ascend nationally. He can pull-up with high elevation, score on put backs, scores through contact, pull-ups from mid to the 3, hits step backs. floaters, runners, hook shots, euro steps and catch-3’s. He is also improving as a lead guard making plays and does all the little things to help a team win.

[player_tooltip player_id="831115" first="Kevin" last="Patton Jr"] Maricopa

One of the top shot blocking forwards on the West Coast. He has supreme length, athleticism and timing. He plays way above the rim on the break and has a unique scoring package. He hits deep 3’s, he can post up inside with his size and score with his footwork plus uses his left or right with hook shots. He gets downhill and can thread the needle to any teammate. He can improve his handle in tight traffic but his natural upside as a prospect is high.

[player_tooltip player_id="814508" first="Andrew" last="Camacho"] Peoria

An easy scorer from all three levels. He has floaters, runners, deep 3’s and pull-ups. His shooting is pure beyond the arc. He has a soft touch from mid-range and uses his super high IQ to facilitate. He had some monster scoring games along the way. He will be the early POY candidate in 4A next season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1389644" first="RJ" last="Lee"] Maricopa

A tough downhill combo guard with long arms. He is a sneaky good passer and can drive and kick it to a corner shooter. He makes the three off the catch and can get hot from deep. He is quick on the ball defensively and is honestly better then I realized.

[player_tooltip player_id="1066514" first="King" last="Turner"] North Canyon

A long and lean scoring lead guard. His shooting looked more polished then during the high school season. His 3pt shot looks clean as well as his pull-up from mid-range. He takes very few strides to get to the basket and will score. He uses his length on defense to collect steals and rebound.

[player_tooltip player_id="1009139" first="Erenzo" last="Scroggins"] McClintock

A transition star. He build/bounce and quick-twitch explosion allows him to dunk the ball better then most in the state. He scores it on put backs, he can step back on his defender and make the three. He can keep improving his deep ball but he projects out as a power defensive point forward with his passing, athleticism, rebounding ability and defense.

[player_tooltip player_id="1421588" first="Dwayne" last="Jones"] Valley Vista

One of the highest motors of the event was Jones. His ability to stay in a stance and defend was second to none. He has good lateral quickness, rebounds well, runs the court and has a strong frame to go along with his length. He scores in transition and is a capable perimeter shooter.

[player_tooltip player_id="1275429" first="Yarell" last="Greer"] Higley

A tough point guard is a true two-way ball hawk. He has supreme lateral quickness and track speed in the open court. He loves getting downhill but is a capable three point shooter. He can hit the pull-up and make plays for others but his on-ball defense sets the tone for his team.
