Continue ReadingThe on and off focus on the WPIAL continues today with a look at four WPIAL guards who are in line to have big senior years and should be on the radar of the regional colleges at a variety of levels. Three of these players featured for big schools that did not receive the attention of other powers but are the leaders of their squads and are among the top players in the Pittsburgh area.
James Wesling James Wesling 6'0" | SG Baldwin | 2023 State PA | 6’1” | G | Baldwin
A versatile player who can attack the basket and also hit shoots from deep. He received numerous accolades in the post season awards and will be one of the better players in the South Hills next winter. Should draw the interest from regional D3s.
Adam Bilinsky Adam Bilinsky 6'3" | SF Norwin | 2023 State PA | 6’3” | G | Norwin
Bilinsky comes from a basketball family. High basketball IQ. Quick first step. Silky smooth shot and range well beyond the arc. He finds little holes to complete tough passes into the paint and on the break. Gets up on the boards and runs the floor well—including the “perfect fast break” ability, right to the foul line. He’s got a UPJ offer and more will be on the way.
Landon Butler Landon Butler 6'2" | CG Latrobe | 2023 State PA | 6’4”| G | Latrobe
The latest in a line of big guards to come out of Arnold Palmer territory, Butler was an all area selection as a junior and went over 20PPG. He’s at his best on the open floor in transition on fast breaks, but can also hit it from deep. Active defender who should have interest from the regional D3s and the WV and PSAC D2s should also pay attention to his summer and senior year.
Daemar Kelly Daemar Kelly 6'3" | SF Penn Hills | 2023 State PA | 6’4” | G | Penn Hills
All area selection on a tough Penn Hills Team, Kelly averaged 17.4PPG as a junior. Good ballhandler, patient on offense and can create his own shot. Finishes well through contact. Defensive hustler and runs the floor well. Interesting player that regional D2 and D3s should be following the next year.
