If you get the chance to watch Central Mass Flight this spring on the Zero Gravity circuit you will find four new reasons to head out to the Worcester area to watch high school basketball this upcoming season. If your looking to find a shooter, slasher, big man and all around total package on the floor, the drive will be worth it. The big surprise is that two of these players will just be starting their high school career as freshman next season.
Keyshon Joiner, St. Paul’s of Worcester, 8th Grade
This shooting guard will tear holes in any zone defense. He finds open spots, catches clean and with a quick release drains shots at will. With deep three point range he makes a coach game plan for his shot. At only 5’8” he is undersized but remember he is young and the size will come. The ability to run of screens and confidently knock down shots when his team needs it will only get better as he grows. He is a player to watch as his game develops. Every team needs a sniper, this player is going to fill that role in any program that is lucky enough to put him on their roster.
Jamel Walker, Doherty High School, 9th Grade
Athleticism and body control give Jamel the ability to knife through the lane and find open spots to carve up a defense. He has the ability to finish in traffic and get to the line. At the line he will make you pay. A free throw is that to him, free points shooting a t a high percentage on his charity attempts. He plays with intensity that helps him get in passing lanes, create turnovers and then get out and run the floor in transition. A little time in the weight room will make him a nightmare in Central Mass next season.
Teriq Goodman, Worcester Vocational, 9th Grade
Although slim don’t let his stature fool you. This 6’5” freshman big man has a great basketball sense. He does all the things a big man should by protecting the rim, rebounding and crashing the offensive glass. What you don’t expect is the silkily smooth mid range jumper that creates match up problems for any defender and the ability to play above the rim for a player of his age. He soars for rebounds and runs the floor very well which allows hint to throw down dunks that are a solid sign that his ability is only headed skyward.
JoJo Reyes, St. Paul’s of Worcester, 8th Grade
When you see him on the floor his build and game would make you shocked when you hear he is only in 8th grade. This kid is the total package. A key cog in the wheel of any team he is playing. A strong ball handler and great all around scorers. He can drive the lane, hit a pull up of come off a screen and drain a three. Defensively he communicates well and has good feet that leave him in position to create turnovers in the passing lanes. This kid is why basketball is fun to watch. Looking forward to seeing more as he grows.
I can’t wait to see these young men hit the court during the high school season. They are a well coached group playing for The Central Mass Flight during AAU, one can only expect great high school seasons from these players.
