We are well into the spring sports season and that includes baseball. The weather has not been perfect and teams have missed plenty of games. That is especially so in North Dakota. Some teams have played only a few games because of the awful snow storms, rain, and wet conditions. That is enough negativity! Let’s look at talented basketball players that also stand out in baseball.

BASKETBALL & BASEBALL

[player_tooltip player_id="1111886" first="Sam" last="Kobbervig"] (2023) |6’2 SG| Central Cass

He was an All-Region baseball player last season. This season Sam and the Squirrels have had an excellent start. Kobbervig is a smooth-fielding middle infielder. He bats #2 for CC. Sam is a great contact hitter with power to the gaps and he rarely strikes out. In basketball, Sam plays AAU ball with ECI and he is primed for a monster summer. Kobbervig will be one of the best players in Region 1 hoops next season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1138816" first="Carson" last="Yale"] (2023) |6’9 F| Des Lacs Burlington

This big man is a great pitcher. Yesterday, Yale threw a gem of a game. It was a 7 inning shutout against MLS who is the #1 team in their Region. Carson has had a great spring from the mound. When he is not pitching, Yale plays first base. Carson also bats cleanup for the Lakers. Yale missed the high school season of hoops because of an injury. He is back playing basketball again. Carson plays with ND Phenom and they have had a very impressive spring. Yale will be playing this weekend in St. Cloud at SPTS #2 and I am expecting a productive weekend for Carson.

[player_tooltip player_id="1050248" first="Carson" last="Bartholomay"] (2023) |6’6 F| Enderlin

He is an athletic baseball player that can cover a lot of ground with his length. Carson is having a nice baseball season. Enderlin uses the big man as a utility guy that can play about any position on the baseball field. In basketball, Carson was a huge part of all the success that the Eagles had. Bartholomay and the Eagles won an impressive amount of games this season and they were highly ranked throughout the year.

[player_tooltip player_id="1138775" first="Caden" last="Kappes"] (2023) |6’1 G| Wahpeton

This kid has baseball blood running through his veins. Kappes is a star shortstop and one of the best defensive players in the area. Caden is smart at the plate and he is also used as a closer. In basketball, Caden is a point guard and a leader. He has smooth ball skills and he is a hard-working defender. Kappes is a team-first player in both sports.

[player_tooltip player_id="1050250" first="Erik" last="Foster"] (2023) |6’5 F| Rugby

He was an All-Region player last season and you should expect the same this year. Foster is a pitcher and a catcher. When Erik is behind the plate, opposing teams rarely run on Rugby. In basketball, Foster was a walking double-double who averaged 13.8 ppg and 11.8 rpg. Foster is a hard-working player and a stingy defender. He grabbed an impressive 259 rebounds this season. In AAU ball, Foster plays with ND Attack.

[player_tooltip player_id="1138815" first="Brady" last="Feller"] (2023) |6’3 G| Bishop Ryan

He is an impressive outfielder for the Lions and one of the best in their region. In basketball, Feller and the Lions won the Region 6 Title and they made a trip to the State Tournament. Brady is a big scoring threat on the offensive end and he has a deep set of skills. Feller is a pure scorer that will hurt teams from all three levels. From beyond the arc, Feller can knock them down from deep. In AAU, Feller plays with ND Attack.

[player_tooltip player_id="812226" first="Trey" last="Brandt"] (2022) |6’1 G| Beulah

He was an All-State baseball player last year and Brandt helped the Miners get to the State Tournament. In the last two seasons, Brandt has played every position except right field. He is an athletic and versatile utility player. When it comes to hoops, Brant has committed to Minot State. Trey was a highly accomplished high school basketball player and he was showered with awards at the end of the season. Brandt will go down as one of the greatest guards in Beulah history.

[player_tooltip player_id="963742" first="Isaac" last="Bruns"] (2023) |6’4 G| Dakota Valley

This star basketball player is also a standout baseball player. Bruns plays centerfield and he also pitches. Isaac is the leadoff hitter for the Panthers and Bruns bats lefthanded. The season has been going well and Dakota Valley will start postseason play soon. In basketball, Bruns is a Division 1 recruit. The Panthers were 26-0 and State Champions in Class A. Isaac played last weekend at Battle At The Lakes and he was outstanding against stiff competition.

[player_tooltip player_id="1390310" first="Ethan" last="Bruns"] (2023) |6’5 F| Sioux Falls Christian

He is a starter for the Chargers and Ethan is having a quality baseball season so far. Bruns and SFC will get the playoffs started on the 23rd. Ethan had a great basketball season. He helped lead the Chargers to the State Tournament. I watched him play a few times this winter and Bruns is a DUDE. For AAU ball, Bruns is playing with SD Attack. He played well this past weekend at Battle At The Lakes.

[player_tooltip player_id="963773" first="Brayden" last="Pankonen"] (2023) |5’11 G| Dell Rapids

This lightning-quick player was All-Region in baseball last season. Brayden was a big part of the Dell Rapids State Championship last year. Brayden bats leadoff and he plays centerfield. Here is a crazy stat, Pankonen has never made an error in high school baseball! In basketball, Brayden is an elite 3-point shooter. This lefty is a playmaker on both ends of the floor. He is off to an excellent start in AAU hoops as well. Pankonen plays for Pentagon Schoolers Maschino.

[player_tooltip player_id="963777" first="Tate" last="Snyder"] (2023) |6’0 G| Sioux Falls Christian

He starts for the Chargers and is a very good baseball player. SFC will begin the playoffs on the 23rd. Tate was one of the top guards for the Chargers in the basketball season. He played a key role in helping the Chargers get back to the State Tournament. Snyder plays his AAU ball with Pentagon Schoolers Maschino. Tate has had a quality start to the AAU season.

[player_tooltip player_id="963787" first="Randy" last="Rosenquist"] (2023) |6’0 G| Dakota Valley

In baseball, Rosenquist is the shortstop for the Panthers and he is a vacuum in the field. He typically bats in the #2 spot for Dakota Valley. Rosenquist is a speedy player on the base path and he is a two-way player. In basketball, Randy was a State Champion this spring after helping the Panthers finish the season with a 26-0 record. Rosenquist had a phenomenal State Tournamnet. In AAU hoops, Randy plays with Pentagon Schoolers Maschino. He has had a great start to the season and Rosenquist was named to the All-Tournament team at Prep Hoops Live.

[player_tooltip player_id="1399817" first="Tad" last="Tjaden"] (2025) |6’5 F| Dells Rapids

He may be young but he is a standout baseball player for the Quarriers. Ayden is long and athletic and this helps make him a stud in baseball and basketball. For AAU basketball Tjaden hoops with Pentagon Schoolers 15U Walker. Tad is one of the top players on his team. His ceiling is very high and Tjaden is currently the #7th ranked prospect in South Dakota in the 2025 class.

[player_tooltip player_id="1355453" first="Jack" last="Henry"] (2024) |6’3 G/F| Dell Rapids

He is a star baseball player with a super bright future ahead of him. Henry is a power hitter and a player that pitchers need to worry about. Jack is looking like a BIG-TIME baseball recruit. On the hardwood, Henry is also impressive. He put up quality numbers this season in school ball and I expect Jack to be a DUDE next year. He can stroke it from deep and hammer down dunks. Henry is an impressive athlete.
