Ames, Iowa. At the 17u level Minnesota Lighting, Grassroots Sizzle Caldwell, and Minnesota Select James all went 3-1 on the weekend representing Minnesota well. We were told that the PEM pair played well again for the Lightning with 6’7 Aeron Stevens Aeron Stevens 6'7" | PF Plainview-Eligin-Millville | 2023 State MN having another strong weekend and Kaiden Peters hitting a game winner. Minnesota Lightning’s 16u team breezed through the top pool winning games by a double figure average and going 4-0. Northstar Titans Broduer was also 4-0.
Phoenix, Arizona. Three teams went down to Phoenix over the weekend: the Minnesota Spartans, Minnesota Grizzlies, and Real Phenom Silas. They enjoyed incredible weather, a relaxed location, and of course basketball. The Spartans were 4-0 and won three games in the top 16u pool plus another game at the 17u level. Jerome Williams Jr Jerome Williams Jr 6'0" | PG Rock Creek Christian Academy | 2024 MD was outstanding, DeMari Larkins, and Chiang Ring Chiang Ring 6'8" | C Park Center | 2024 State #276 Nation MN were all excellent (as were the Iowa players). As for the Minnesota Grizzlies, Sam Massaquo played at a very high level. We saw him score 35 in a win and a game later – in a back to back scenario that the Grizzlies took – Sam scored another 25!
Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Meg Vang Invitational was held over the weekend with a load of teams at each level. Minnesota Crossfire Barger won the 17s event and beat most of their opponents convincingly. Henry Skinner Henry Skinner 6'2" | PG Rockford | 2023 State MN from Rockford had a great tournament as did Vincent Hilleshiem from Hopkins. As for the 16s level, D1 Minnesota Martin beat everybody by double digits winning their division while Central Minnesota Cougars won the other division.
Woodbury, Minnesota. The first of three weekends of Sanford Pentagon League play was last weekend and it took place in Minnesota. The Minnesota Fury Antl 17s is one of three teams that went 4-0 (along with Minnesota Swing and North Dakota Phenom). The Minnesota Heat PVR squad is the lone team that went 3-1 so that makes the Fury and the Heat in the top four after one weekend. Minnesota dominated the 16u level with Select, Comets, and Heat top teams all going undefeated. The Southwest MN Stars went 3-1. Half the teams in the Sanford series are Minnesota teams and they went a combined 19-5 on the weekend.
