I was in attendance all weekend watching the 15Us at Triton Central, and I was able to see some of the best talent from teams across the entire country. Let’s take a look at the top quick guards from Indiana that I saw this past weekend.
Forrest Broemel – 6’0” PG – North Central (Grand Park Premier White)
Broemel is a point guard who is quick up the floor and always on the attack. He is tough on the inside and finished over the bigger rim protectors. Broemel also had several nice dishes to open teammates when the defense helped on his drives. He didn’t really show a shot, but his passes and attacking caught eyes for sure.
Moses Haynes – 5’10” PG – New Palestine (D1 Indiana)
Haynes was easily the best true point guard that I saw the entire weekend. He was setting up his teammates the entire game, and his court vision was top-notch. He is a high IQ player who knew exactly where the ball needed to go, and he was able to deliver it on the money every single time. Haynes was also able to show off his offensive ability with some good moves at the rim and a three as well. Look out for this kid!
Davyn Henderson – 5’9” PG – Hammond Morton (Old Gold)
Henderson is a guard who could have easily been on our best shooters list, but his quickness and ability to get to the hole landed him here. He did have a couple of triples and a mid-range, but he also showed off some nifty finishing moves around the rim. He has great touch, and his versatility makes him even more impactful as a scorer.
Preston Kempf – 5’8” PG – Providence (Southern Indiana Blaze)
Kempf is a very good shooter and could develop more into the shooter role, but I was more impressed with his court vision and ability to distribute the basketball. He had several touch passes that were on the money and led to easy buckets. He was one of the real focal points of their offense just due to his ability to set up his teammates.
Javon Warfield – 6’0” SG – Anderson (All Area Basketball Program)
Warfield is a tough guard who looks to attack every touch. He is smooth on the inside and has good moves around the rim. I don’t know that he really missed anything around the rim. Court vision was not the best, but if he can improve this with experience, it will make a big difference.
Bryson Whitlock – 6’1” SG – Providence (Southern Indiana Blaze)
Whitlock played a little bit of third fiddle behind Kempf and Arthur, but Whitlock was able to score it in different ways. He used his size and quickness to get to the rim. He is also very smooth, but he is strong with the ball as well. Whitlock also knocked down a three. All in all, he showed that he could do many things well this weekend.
