I cant wait to see what the do during the remainder of the tournament, as well as the growth they will begin to show over the next few months!
Elijah Guidry 2024 6’0 MacArthur High School, TX (North Houston Bandits 2023)
Elijah is a crafty and elusive combo guard who thrives at creating space and shaking his defenders. I saw one of the most intense matchups of the entire tournament with plenty of smack talk from coaches, parents and the players from both teams. Guidry was willing to go back and forth against some other highly skilled guards who attacked him on the defensive end of the court. He calmly went back at them and shifted their momentum with quick crossovers and his sneaky ability to find space. He has all the characteristics of a fighter and a dog on the court, and I cannot wait to watch him develop into a high level guard at the next level. This is one guard I can not wait to see in person again.
Bryce Prather 2024 5’7 Stafford High School, TX (Houston Kings Elite 2024)
Bryce is an aware point guard who thrives on the fast break through his ability to control the tempo of the game. I was very impressed by his ability to handle the ball and create offense on the break. He made timely passes to set up his teammates for easy looks who beat the defense down the court. His ability to constantly run and push the tempo, even after a made basket allowed his team to get easy looks in the paint and quick shots on the break. I would like to see him work on his ability to get into the paint in the half court, and work on adding a floater to easily score over the top of his defenders.
Kasen Hastings Kasen Hastings 6'0" | PG Krum | 2024 State TX 2024 6’0 Krum High School, TX (DC Kings Denton 2024)
Kasen is a skilled point guard who sees the floor at an extremely high level and sets up his teammates very well in the half court. He routinely found his teammates with timely passes and aware cross court passes that found his wide open teammates on the back side of the defense. I was impressed by his ability to get into the teeth of the defense and make the right reads to set up his team for easy looks, either from dump off passes or on the weak side. He is a tough finisher in the paint, who showed an ability to get his shot off over bigger defenders. He displayed an ability to score off the dribble from the midrange and beyond the arc as well. I would like to see him work on tightening up his handle and creating space within the half court through quick crossovers.
DeMichael Chew 2024 6’3 Peabody Magnet High School, LA (Cenla Storm 2024)
DeMichael is a massive point guard who uses his size to dominate from all three levels of the floor, his height at this age allows him to routinely score over the top of his defenders by simply rising up for a jumper. He is great at finishing in the lane and using his burly frame to create space through his aggression and constant energy in the paint. He is a high level scorer who showed an ability to calmly knock down shots off the catch within the corners and the wings. I would like to see him work on his ability to hit his pull up jumper, and adding a quick one to two dribble pull up out of the triple threat or after a shot fake in the corner.
