Getting to know some players from their high school season leading into the spring event circuit.

[player_tooltip player_id="1361695" first="Joe" last="Knaus"]. 6”5. 2024. Chaminade

Chaminade will lose some of its scoring punch and size due to graduation so Joe will have a much bigger role next year. It is starting now. At 6”5 he has good size. Can step out and drain the three from beyond the arc.

[player_tooltip player_id="1361690" first="Chris" last="Welling"]. 6”3. 2024. St Anthony’s

Good frame on this strong bodied player. Looks like he is ready to make a strong impact on the varsity this coming season. Will play a major role as the Friars are losing their two top scorers. Chris can shoot threes. He is also a guy you want at the end of the game to have the ball in his hands. He is an excellent free throw shooter.

Tonmy Snyder 6”5. 2024. St Anthony’s

Tommy was the sixth man this past season. He showed the ability to mix it up inside. Has a high basketball IQ. Can score inside. An outstanding rebounder. Displayed the ability to convert old school three point plays by getting fouled after converting on put backs or a strong finish inside.

Osagie Elkhator 6”4. 2024. Elmont

Has a strong athletic body. Uses it well inside or off the bounce to the rim. Extremely active on both ends of the floor. He has expanded his range but is still best using his body to punish and score inside.

[player_tooltip player_id="1045779" first="Jakai" last="Stith"] 6”1 2023 Hempstead

Think Charles Barkley on a smaller scale. I’m not saying he’s anywhere near Barkley but he does play bigger and more athletic then you might think when you see him. He gets the job done. Uses his body to protect the ball. Slow deliberate strong handle gets to the rim and scores through contact. Creates contact and finishes. He is hard to deny from getting the ball inside. Seals his man or gains inside position to set up scoring chances.

[player_tooltip player_id="1392631" first="Derek" last="Schecter"] 5”10 2023 Mount Sinai

Heady point guard. Has excellent court vision. Really good handle. Point guard skill set. A strong shooter from behind the line.

Marquese Dennis. 6”2. 2024. Brentwood.

A nice surprise for Brentwood. They were in need of finding a consistent second and third option and Marquese stepped up and took over that role. Next year he is already showing during the spring events that he is ready to be the next top player from Brentwood. A perennial contender for the Suffolk title. He is extremely quick with a spin move off the baseline. Hard to stop from getting to the rim.
