A loaded pool of talented teams enters the arena once again, with 4 solid Kansas teams in the event let’s preview some names from those teams for who to watch for ina great 2023 class in Kansas.
Team: SSA Elite 2023 Black
Tyson Ruud Tyson Ruud 6'5" | SF Basehor-Linwood | 2023 State KS , 6’6 W, Basehor Linwood HS, 2023: Will be one of the most athletic wing players coaches can see all weekend. Can absolutely take off in transition, cut down the teeth of the lane and explode for lobs or dump downs for dunks, and can be a dunker spot guy awaiting drop offs for explosive finishes. Shot it at about 40% from 3 with high volume in the first live weekend and shot over 40% from 3 during his high school season. An athletic and 3 point shot making wing player right here. Averaged 20 points and 6 rebounds per game in the first live sessions.
Jackson Biggs Jackson Biggs 6'6" | SF Lyndon | 2023 KS , 6’5 W/F, Lyndon HS, 2023: An extremely skilled and high IQ wing/forward prospect. Really understands the game and can play from the post area, facing up in the mid post, operating from the pinch post, or playing on the perimeter. A very good screener off the ball, and is a hokey assist specialist. Biggs has a really solid shot from 15 ft. on out and is very skilled with his footwork to create scoring angles. Can guard multiple positions as well. Was a stat sheet stuffer in the first live weekend.
Team: SSA Elite 2023 White
Jack Lauer, 6’1 G, Marysville HS, 2023: Is a microwave shooter from the perimeter and once he gets hot the range extends and extends. Really hunts threes in transition and can knock them down in a hurry off the catch. Really strong guard who can absorb a ton of contact when driving or cutting. great at crashing the glass on both ends of the floor. Big time competitor.
Collins Elumogo, 6’4 W/F, Manhattan High, 2023: A new name to watch as he has emerged from Manhattan High as a really solid and versatile puzzle piece in the front court. Very quick up and down the court, can hit open shots from the perimeter, but thrives as a slasher/cutter getting momentum towards the basket and is an efficient finisher. Does great things guarding in the painted area and is solid as a weakside defender and rotation guy.
Team: Drive 5 Select 2023
Blake Hekman, 6’2 G, Heritage Christian Academy KS, 2023: Great two guard who can score it at a solid clip and can be a open knock down shooter. Was a key component to Heritage Christian’s success this season. Hekman can really heat up and score in bunches. Rebounds it well from the perimeter and crashes the glass and hunts down long rebounds.
Jackson Noland, 6’2 G, Blue Valley Southwest KS, 2023: A solid role player and knockdown shooter for a solid BVSW team this year. Complimented their playmaking guards really well by being shot ready and able on the perimeter from all around the arc. Shot it over 40% from three on the high school season. In the open court atmosphere of grassroots game, coaches should see his knockdown ability with an increased amount of chances.
Team: KS 94×50 2023
Jahmir Kingcannon Jahmir Kingcannon 6'3" | SF Highland Park | 2023 State KS , 6’3 G, Highland Park HS, 2023: A perimeter player with great length and shooting ability. Played a great role as a catch and shoot shot maker for a loaded guard roster at his high school and shot it at a high level. Really solid range an excels in being shot ready and knocking down drive and kick opportunities or transition jumpers. Solid rebounder and wing defender as well.
Tre Morris, 6’2 PG, Washburn Rural HS, 2023: A long and lanky guard who plays some on the ball as and played that off ball guard role this season too. Has solid handle and understanding of the game, plays extremely hard on both ends, and can get hot from the perimeter. On the grassroots circuit he should see more opportunities to showcase his ability on the court. His length and motor allows him to play big minutes, and is always a threat to drill a big shot.
