College Commitment: Forrest Reyes (2022 Clackamas)
Forrest Reyes Forrest Reyes 5'6" | CG Clackamas | 2022 State OR knew there would be challenges ahead of him as a senior at Clackamas. The strong 5-foot-7, 150-pound guard was transferring up to the 6A level for his senior season and needed to fit in with a brand new team and culture while hoping to capture college recruiting attention. Injury and illness cost him the opportunity to compete for part of the year but he remained positive. A college program in the Midwest continued to stay in touch and this week, his resilience was rewarded as he accepted an offer to play college basketball next season at Midland University in Nebraska.
“I knew that Midland was right for me when I took a visit to their campus,” Reyes said. “Right away I was blown away with the culture they have set at their basketball program. Also, when talking to the players on the team they told me it feels like a family and that’s what I want. The coaches have been very sportive to me and they believed in me.”
Reyes first got in touch with the Midland coaching staff at the beginning of the year. The contact continued throughout the year and the Warriors were intrigued by his play with the Cavs. The trip to campus helped solidify things in Reyes’ mind and the fit on the basketball court was especially clear for him.
“Well, they love shooting the three ball as I think they were fifth or around there in three-point attempts in the NAIA level, which is a strength of mine,” Reyes said. “Also, the coaches let the players play free and they like to play fast, which I think best fits my play style.”
The opportunity to play at the next level was special for Reyes, who didn’t get to play a full season at Clackamas – his first and only year with the Cavs having transferred in from Life Christian where he played his first three years of high school. While the time was somewhat limited, the guard played hard every time out, hitting perimeter shots, finishing tough buckets on the drive, and his emotion and motor were infectious to the entire team.
“Well obviously it wasn’t what I wanted or expected, as I missed about 8-9 weeks due to injury and COVID,” Reyes said. “I had a really good time competing with my new teammates though. We had a great group of guys and they looked to me to help lead them and it was an honor and an experience I will never forget.”
Reyes currently ranks as the # player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings. Our congratulations go out to him and his family on his decision.
