Earlier this week I got a chance to sit down with Ed Chery, Director, and Coach of one of Florida’s newest travel ball organizations SWFL Hoops. He’s bringing a much-needed spotlight to the southwest region of the state of Florida giving kids a place to compete at a high level as an independent team on the Prep Hoops Circuit. Chery has brought quite the roster to the circuit, his 2023,2024,2025 teams have some real studs and look to put the state on notice this weekend in Tampa at Prep Hoops Proving Grounds.

Let’s take a look at some of the prospects I’m expecting to make some noise from the SWFL Hoops roster.

2023/17u

6’6 [player_tooltip player_id="1310825" first="John" last="Gamble"] Guard/Wing

If you’ve been following basketball in the state of Florida then you’re familiar with Gamble. The 6’6 high flyer holds multiple Mid Major div 1 offers. The Charlotte High stud is a fierce rim protector and intense slasher. He’s a capable shooter off the dribble and spot-up. I expect him to have a dominant weekend at Proving Grounds continuing to raise his stock.

6’4 Yohandry Ortiz Guard

The rising senior had a breakout season for Gulfcoast putting the SWFL area on notice. Ortiz averaged close to 17ppg this season accompanied by a respectable 7 RPG. Interested to see him play this travel season. He’s a strong prospect with a soft touch to and the rim.

2024/16u

6’4 [player_tooltip player_id="1055718" first="Chris" last="Cornish"] Guard

Without any question, Cornish will be the most explosive 2024 prospects at Proving Grounds. Look for Chris to lead his team in scoring and rebounding. The rising Junior is fast with a big bag of moves allowing him to get in the paint using his ability to finish. He will be a major talking point among scouts, Mark my words. This guard has recently been showing off an ability to shoot the 3 at a consistent clip. This high flyer is a joy for coaches and scouts to watch. High IQ player.

6’4 [player_tooltip player_id="1163407" first="Brennen" last="Ingle"] Guard

Ingle is a firecracker. When this kid is on and in his zone he does everything. The 6’4 guard can run the point or play off ball and absolutely torch the nets from deep. If he remains coachable throughout the travel season, SWFL Hoops might have one of the most exciting 1-2 punches on the circuit.

2025/15u

5’8 Jordan Attia Guard

This 2025 guard can score in absolute bunches. He demonstrates a great handle, where Jordan shines is his ability to shoot the ball. When his team needs a 3, he’s their go-to guy. I’ve enjoyed watching this player’s game grow over the past year. He’s confident in his game and knows how to get to his spots. Look for Attia to be one of the lead scorers from this 15u team.

5’8 Jah Chin Point Guard

Described as a pure point guard, Chin is the often one looking to make his team better. He controls the tempo of the game, and displays an incredibly high IQ for a 15u player. Jah is a two-way player, his effort on defense is something that shouldn’t be overlooked.
