The event featured some of the top players from the class of 2023 who not only excel on the court, but off the court in the classroom as well. I was on hand for the event and here’s a look at some of the top standouts from that game.
1. Denzel Hines – Colony (CA)
Hines is a bit of a tweener forward who can play as a big 3 or a small-ball 4/5. He has the interior game and he’s strong. He’s active around the rim and is a good finisher in the paint. He gets out on the break to either as a finisher or even as the ball handler. In transition he looks for open teammates. He’s worked on his shooting range to become a consistent threat from three point range and space the floor. Good catch and shoot player.
2. Jaland Lowe – Ft. Bend Marshall (TX)
Lowe stood out as a good point guard. He’s a good playmaker on the break, keeps his head up, sees the open floor and finds open teammates. He’s a good ball handler who can hit defenders with pull up jumpers in the halfcourt. He’s a very good shooter from three-point range. Can hit three point shots off the dribble and can face up and shoot threes too. Off-ball, he can hit catch and shoot threes in transition.
3. Jordan Trahan – Country Day (LA)
Trahan is in the mold of a big point guard. He’s got the size of a wing but the skills of a 1. He’s a very good ball handler who pushes the pace well in transition. He knows when to make the pass after the defender commits, he gets rid of the ball quickly, doesn’t hold on to it too long to let the defense get set. Good shooter from three point range. He can get to the rim and looks to finish strong.
4. Tyler Ringgold – Southern University Lab School (LA)
Ringgold is a good wing prospect. He’s active around the rim and a good offensive rebounder. He can finish through traffic. He showed off some solid ball handling ability in the halfcourt and can can also do some playmaking. Runs the floor well in transition. He has the tools to be an effective defensive player with his length and athletic ability.
