Here are the 2025s who were named on KSHSAA’s honorable mention teams:
Jaalan Watson Jaalan Watson 5'8" | PG Olathe North | 2025 State KS , 5-foot-7 guard, Olathe North:
Watson was the only freshman outside of 1A to receive KSHSAA honorable mention recognition. He led Olathe North to a spot at the state tournament, where they lost to eventual 6A state champ Wichita Heights. It was a rough outing for Olathe North, but Watson actually tied for the team lead with 6 points in the game. That’s great experience for a 9th grader. Watson led the Eagles with 10 points per game.
Lincoln Shafer, 5-foot-8 guard, Tribune-Greeley County:
Schafer was named to the Sports in Kansas second team, the only 9th grader to rise above honorable mention status to get named to an all-state team. Schafer was the hero of the 1A Div. II final. He buried a three-pointer at the buzzer for the win. He’s a sharpshooter who averaged 8.4 points and 2.5 assists for the champs.
Hector Gomez, 5-foot-8 guard, Macksville:
The Mustangs are loaded with young players who will be back next year. Gomez is one of several exciting guards who gained a ton of experience in a season that included three state playoff games. Gomez put up nice numbers: 9.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.2 steals.
Cam Schmidt, 6-foot-1 guard, Burrton:
Prep Hoops can’t wait to learn more about what’s going on a Burrton. A couple of freshmen earned honorable mention. Schmidt had some ridiculous scoring outbursts. He averaged 25 points as a 9th grader.
Aiden Hoopes, 5-foot-6 guard, Burrton:
Hoopes was a ball-handling and passing complement to Schmidt. He is another freshman Prep Hoops scouts will be on the watch for this spring.
Daniel Cramer, 5-foot-9 guard, Dighton:
The Hornets were really good this year, and Cramer was a fantastic part of it. The freshman guard was a terror at the defensive end with 4 steals per game. He also contributed 13 points and 4.5 steals a game.
Ty Romero, 6-foot-2 forward, Elyria Christian:
Elyria Christian had a solid season with Romero receiving the highest honors of any of the team – second team in the Wheat State League. He’s a player Prep Hoops will be on the lookout for.
Brandon Schmelzle, 6-foot-2 forward, Axtell:
Schmelzle was a beast on the football field last fall. No stats were available for his basketball season, but he looks to be an athlete to watch for.
