Last weekend we watched a lot of 2023 prospects last weekend, and this article will spotlight some of the stock risers from the 2023 class.

[player_tooltip player_id="1052782" first="Chase" last="Walker"], 6’8 C St Charles 2023 - Nova Village 17 U: Walker was a man amongst boys in the paint, dominating UPLAY in the one game I caught of Nova this weekend. Walker’s size is a match-up problem for opposing teams as most bigs are on the slimmer side. Walker possesses NFL offensive linemen size and loves going over his right shoulder no matter how he gets there. Walker is either going to spin back or use the rim as protection to finish with his left hand. Walker has established himself as one of the top bigs in Ohio’s 2023 class and will likely add to his list of Division I offers which right now includes Toledo.

[player_tooltip player_id="922602" first="Ryan" last="Nutter"], 6’3 PG Dublin Jerome 2023 - Nova Village 17U: Nutter was the most vocal point guard I watched all weekend as his leadership on the court is very rare in today’s game. Nutter constantly is communicating on defense and directing his teammates around the court on offense. Nutter also knocked down a pull-up 3-pointer with some space, his jumper is a major question mark heading into this summer. Depending on how well Nutter shoots the ball, it could determine what level of college interest he draws.

[player_tooltip player_id="1163461" first="Rayquan" last="Thompson"], 6'0 PG Solon 2023 - OBC 17 U: OBC 17 U had a great weekend in Fort Wayne, going unbeaten against a competitive slate of opponents. Thompson is a player I didn’t get the chance to see during the high school season and was encouraged by the strides he’s made since I last saw him almost a year ago. Thompson is quicker and more confident with the basketball and scored it at an efficient clip this weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id="1165700" first="Braydn" last="Szczpaniak"], 6’3 SF Saint Ignatius - OBC 17 U: Szczpaniak had an impressive outing against the Ohio Buckets with a strong second half by making open jumpers and finding himself at the right place to score underneath the rim. OBC really does a nice job moving the ball and typically they take open shots on offense, this allows them to beat teams that might have more overall talent.

[player_tooltip player_id="1378191" first="Austin" last="Southerland"], 5'11 SG Sycamore 2023 - Midwest Basketball Club Black 17 U: Southerland hit the game-winner in overtime for Midwest Basketball Club in the only game I caught of their team this weekend. Southerland shoots the ball at a high level off the catch and worked well alongside [player_tooltip player_id="1219839" first="Riley" last="Woods"] who drew a lot of attention with his drives to the basket. Southerland has range to extend well beyond the 3-point line and is smart with the ball in his hands.

[player_tooltip player_id="1163458" first="Daylen" last="Green"], 6’3 SF Sandusky 2023 - Ohio Buckets Miller 17 U: Green really impressed me in Ohio Buckets Miller’s win over All Ohio Select. Green shot the ball at a much better clip than I have previously seen from the outside and did all the things I previously found intriguing with him. Green was deflecting passes, slashing to the basket and getting out in transition. If the outside shooting improvement is real, he could be a major stock riser this summer.

[player_tooltip player_id="1225055" first="Dylan" last="Hohler"], 6’4 SF Huron 2023 - Ohio Buckets Miller 17 U: Hohler is in my opinion the best prospect on his team that shares the ball at a very high level and plays good team basketball. Hohler is a two-sport stud for Huron, excelling on the gridiron as well, and his athleticism translates perfectly to the hardwood. Hohler made a lot of defensive plays, whether it be blocks, interceptions or on-ball defense. Hohler found success driving to the bucket and scoring as well. I want to see how well Hohler shoots it from the outside because if he shows that skill as well, I expect scholarship programs to come calling.
