Wednesday was wild and witnessed the elimination of a couple of favorites. The mighty Beech fell. Coffee County’s run ended.

This is an evolving document.

Fulton vs. Fayette-Ware

Fulton ran over Fayette-Ware early, and then played from ahead for the last half.

Fulton’s forward [player_tooltip player_id="1135401" first="Tyler" last="Lee"] and both Kimber brothers exceled. [player_tooltip player_id="1122457" first="Marcellus" last="Jackson"] played excellent as a pass-first point guard, finishing with eight assists. If one must be picked, then [player_tooltip player_id="1381653" first="Denaj" last="Kimber"] was the game’s MVP. Denaj hit three three- pointers. He was wonderful in both the open floor and the halfcourt.

[player_tooltip player_id="1011978" first="JaSteven" last="Walker"] (Fayette-Ware) did his thing. The Mr. Basketball Finalist secured plenty of rebounds and scored effectively.

Unfortunately for his Wildcats the speed of Fulton was too much.

Dobyns-Bennett vs. Coffee County

[player_tooltip player_id="1408711" first="Brady" last="Stump"]’s day was perfection. The Indians of Dobyns-Bennett did not need excellence from Brady, but they got it anyway. Stump was crafting difficult layups seemingly out of nothing. Stump was innovative and persistent. The defenders funneled him towards low-percentage alleys, but he made the most of his opportunities.

DB’s guard [player_tooltip player_id="1408711" first="Brady" last="Stump"] is simply a magician today. Think D Wade’s acrobatics in a 5-foot-9 body, lol. 27 points on 8-10 shooting! 5-7 3’s. Remarkable.

Bartlett vs. Beech

The game was not attractive, but beauty points are not tabulated in the playoffs. Bartlett won thanks to the excellence of Terrence Jacobs. The senior point guard darted around the floor with a calm. Beech’s guards are uncommonly tall and strong and Jacobs still found his way to the danger points. He made great decisions, and even though his teammates missed many, he put them in situations within which they could succeed. That is all you can ask from a point guard. Jacobs’ halftime buzzer-beating three-pointer absolutely helped the team too. Jacobs’ ten rebounds really stunned. How can a 5-foot-7ish guard pick off 10 rebounds against a team of three 6’5"+ players? Jacobs was dynamite.

Even though his team lost, [player_tooltip player_id="1012001" first="Andrew" last="Paige"] absolutely deserves mention as his team’s MVP. Paige was the best player for the game’s first quarter. The dual-sport athlete, Paige managed eight points and eight rebounds by the half. Paige was very aggressive offensively around the rim and helped his team alter shots that Bartlett typically makes. His production trailed off a lot in the second half, which was to be expected. Teammates [player_tooltip player_id="1011998" first="Kristian" last="Shaw"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1008433" first="Eli" last="Rice"] were historically the team’s great scorers, though they struggled to find consistent rhythm.
