The updated 2023 class rankings in VA came out last week, and with that will come a lot of content in the next week or so!

Today, we take a look at part 2 of the shooting guards and small forward rankings, ranking numbers 15-6.

Check out the full rankings here, and stay tuned for more content and class rankings updates!

15) [player_tooltip player_id="1231822" first="Leland" last="Coleman"] | 6’5” | Trinity Episcopal (#34 Overall)

An athletic and high academic kid who has a lot of room to improve, Coleman has all the tools and continues to show that he’s putting it together as he grows. He’s a competitor who brings it on the defensive end and rebounds well on both ends of the floor, he’s improved in his ability to create shots off the bounce and make them from deep and he is still just scratching the surface with how good he can be at the next level.

14) [player_tooltip player_id="1117679" first="Macon" last="Emory"] | 6’6” | Blue Ridge (#33 Overall)

Emory, whose brother Houston is one of the top big men prospects in the 2022 class, has shown flashes of brilliance and has a mix of size and shot making ability that is intriguing to the next level. At 6’6” he’s able to get to spots and knock down shots from the midrange, he can spot up and make shots from deep and he has good size and craft around the basket to finish as well.

13) [player_tooltip player_id="999628" first="Desmond" last="Roberts"] | 6’5” | VES (#32 Overall)

Roberts is very intriguing as a long term prospect moving forward as he has great physical and athletic tools and plays with a good motor on both ends of the floor too. He can guard multiple positions both on the perimeter and in the paint, he’s a big time rebounder who can then start the break with his ability to put it on the deck and he flies all around and can make plays others simply can’t.

12) [player_tooltip player_id="1241902" first="Joe" last="Baldwin"] | 6’5” | Fairfax Christian (#31 Overall)

Baldwin is another intriguing long term prospect who has improved a lot over the past few years and still has a lot of room to get better, particularly on the offensive end. He has a great frame and has good length as well, he can get a lot of deflections and jump passing lanes and he’s a good chase down blocker in transition, he’s a big time finisher above the rim and he’s really improved in his ability to knock down the spot up 3 as well.

11) [player_tooltip player_id="999618" first="Steven" last="Stinson"] | 6’4” | John Marshall (#28 Overall)

Stinson is one of the strongest wings you’ll come across, as he has good strength in both his upper and lower body and uses that to finish around the rim and defend as well. He can put it on the deck and uses his body to create space around the rim to finish, he’s a very good rebounder for his position and plays much bigger than he is and he brings a high motor and toughness to his team to help them win.

10) [player_tooltip player_id="999636" first="AJ" last="Clark"] | 6’3” | Menchville (#27 Overall)

Clark has really shown improvement this season and has a chance to really blow up this summer in AAU with Team Loaded 757. The 6’3” wing plays with great energy and is very athletic allowing him to get steals and block shots coming help side, he can attack the rim off the bounce and is a big time finisher above the rim and he’s really improved in his shot making ability off the catch and off of one to two dribble pull-ups as well.

9) [player_tooltip player_id="1403919" first="Buom" last="Jock"] | 6’5” | Episcopal (#24 Overall)

Jock transferred to Episcopal from Minnesota where he was a two sport star and reclaiffied to the 2023 class, and while many thought the Maroons would have a down year he was a big reason they exceeded expectations and is a very intriguing long term prospect. At 6’5” he has very long arms and is a big time athlete with his ability to run the floor and play above the rim, he gets deflections and can challenge shots using his length, he’s a high motor guy who brings it on both ends and he can drive in straight lines and knock down open shots.

8) [player_tooltip player_id="1115503" first="Greg" last="Jones"] | 6’5” | Hayfield (#13 Overall)

Jones was in our rankings before many knew about him, but as he continued to elevate his game he’s starting to show people that he’s one of the most versatile wings in the state and after leading Hayfeld to a perfect season and state championship he’s set to blow up on the recruiting trail this summer. The 6’5” wing has great physical and athletic tools with length and pop around the rim, he is skilled and smart with the ball in his hands and always makes the right play, he impacts the game across the board and he still has a ton of room to polish and grow moving forward.

7) [player_tooltip player_id="962789" first="Davin" last="Cosby Jr"]. | 6’4” | Benedictine (#11 Overall)

When it comes to absolute snipers, Cosby is one of the top around as he not only drills it from deep consistently but he also has great footwork and the ability to come off of screens, set his feet and drill shots on the move. He has exceptional range with ease from deep, he can get hot quickly and make shots in succession but also doesn’t go through long cold droughts as a shooter, he’s a good athlete who can finish above the rim and has good potential defensively and he’s improved in his ability to create shots for himself.

6) [player_tooltip player_id="999638" first="Jamie" last="Kaiser"] | 6’5” | Bishop Ireton (#8 Overall)

Kaiser is perhaps the best dual sport athlete in the state as he holds mid to high offers in both football and basketball, and he is an elite two way impact player who can be both your best player offensively and defensively. He has good size on the wing and is a big time athlete who can play above the rim when he gets downhill, he’s a sniper from deep particularly in the corners and from the top of the key, he can work off the ball to get open but also has the ability to put it on the deck and create space and he can lock down your other teams best scorer while also providing that punch offensively.
