It doesn’t take star players to make the state tournament. But it sure doesn’t hurt.

Some of the best players in Kansas will gather in Salina for the 4A state tournament, which tips off Thursday.

Here’s a look at Prep Hoops’ top-ranked players who will be in Salina for 4A state:

2022 #6 [player_tooltip player_id="891909" first="Christian" last="Bowen-Webb"], 6-foot-2 guard, Miege:

Bowen-Webb is the main holdover from that incredible Miege team that crushed the 4A field last year. A couple of his Division I running mates didn’t return, but Bowen-Webb has done a fine job leading this new team, that is still loaded with talent. The slashing senior guard averaged 15 points this season. He’s joined in the backcourt by 2022 #15 [player_tooltip player_id="891905" first="Xavier" last="Hall"] and 2022 #112 [player_tooltip player_id="946253" first="Julian" last="Gallegos"]. 6-foot-7 center [player_tooltip player_id="1372655" first="Kellan" last="Boylan"] is #54 in that class. A couple of ranked juniors from Miege are #16 [player_tooltip player_id="1080169" first="Aiden" last="Wing"] and #51 [player_tooltip player_id="1080201" first="Daegan" last="Jensen"]. That’s SIX ranked players on one team!

2022 #7 [player_tooltip player_id="891906" first="Trey" last="Moala"], 6-foot-7 forward, Paola (pcitured):

One of the most skilled big men in the state, Moala will pose a handful for opponents at Emporia. He’s coring about 19 points and grabbing about 9 boards per game. He can swat shots and step out to knock down the perimeter shot.

2022 #16 [player_tooltip player_id="891911" first="Kaleb" last="Becker"], 6-foot-4 forward, Abilene:

Becker runs the floor with the best of bigs and gets to the hoop with power. He can hit the midrange shot and is tough on the glass.

2022 #20 [player_tooltip player_id="946262" first="Seth" last="Madron"], 6-foot-2 guard, McPherson:

McPherson is a balanced team of skilled players led by the super-athletic Madron. He is a guard who plays above the rim and really can crash the boards. He is averaging 18 points and 8 rebounds.

#2023 #20 [player_tooltip player_id="1080180" first="Jack" last="Voth"], 6-foot-5 forward, Buhler:

A power player who can step out to the perimeter and run the floor, Voth is putting up some huge numbers. He brings a ton of energy and fire to the team which is guided by 2022 #46 [player_tooltip player_id="891918" first="Isaiah" last="Hernandez"].
