Postseason selection time!

Today, I will highlight my picks for Broward County. The area had a good showing in Lakeland with Calvary Christian Academy winning the 4A state championship. The Eagles also won the Class 3A state title in 2020-2021. Fort Lauderdale Stranahan won the Class 5A state championship and finished with a 27-3 overall record. Sagemont also reached the 2A state title before falling to Orlando Christian Prep. 7A Cypress Bay also won a school record 23 games. 3A North Broward Prep went 27-3 before falling to Calvary Christian Academy in the state playoffs. Pretty good showing!

This is an incredible area with 15-20 players who could be on this list and undoubtedly at the top of every other county in the state.

Let’s look into it...

MVP: [player_tooltip player_id="709215" first="Marvel" last="Allen"] - Calvary Christian Academy

2023 [player_tooltip player_id="709215" first="Marvel" last="Allen"] is my pick after a big-time performance against Lake Highland Prep in the Class 4A state semifinals. The 6-foot-4 guard scored 19 points and had a key steal late in the game. That victory helped propel the Eagles to a win over Andrew Jackson in the final. The LSU commit averaged 13.8 points, four rebounds and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 44 percent from the field. You can pick and choose anyone on Calvary Christian here, but I’m rolling with the 5-star guard.

[player_tooltip player_id="955774" first="Kolby" last="King"] - Pembroke Pines Charter

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="955774" first="Kolby" last="King"] was an electric guard during his time with the Jaguars. The 6-foot-2 King averaged 15.3 points per game while leading Pembroke Pines Charter to a 25-4 overall record. He scored 20 or more points in six games and had 25 points against Central Catholic and Westminster Academy. The St. John’s signee won a Class 5A state championship as a junior.

[player_tooltip player_id="963313" first="Hykeem" last="Williams"] - Stranahan

I think winning a state championship is important and 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="963313" first="Hykeem" last="Williams"] was a big factor for Stranahan. The 6-foot-4 forward scored 20 points against St. Petersburg to give the program their third state title in four seasons. Overall, Williams averaged a team-best 12.2 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Moreover, he grabbed 143 of his 299 boards on the offensive end. Williams recorded 12 double-doubles overall. His toughness and explosiveness was an integral part to the Mighty Dragons' championship season. Williams is also a standout wide receiver with offers from multiple major programs.

[player_tooltip player_id="712107" first="Taylor" last="Hendricks"] - Calvary Christian Academy

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="712107" first="Taylor" last="Hendricks"] really progressed from his time at University School to Calvary Christian Academy. The 6-foot-10 averaged a team-best 15 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game while shooting 62 percent from the field. Hendricks scored 18 points and recorded four blocks while shooting 9-of-15 (60 percent) from the floor in the state semifinals against Lake Highland Prep. The UCF signee was one of the best two-way players I've watched in recent memory.

[player_tooltip player_id="709227" first="Jaylen" last="Carey"] - Westminster Academy

2023 [player_tooltip player_id="709227" first="Jaylen" last="Carey"] had a terrific season for the Lions. The 6-foot-8 power forward averaged 17.7 points and 12.3 rebounds per game while shooting 57 percent from the field. Carey’s play helped Westminster Academy to a 22-7 overall record. He also recorded a double-double in 24 of 28 listed games. His power and footwork around the paint really showed this season. Carey holds offers from Ole Miss and Florida Gulf Coast.
