This past weekend, AIMS Sportsplex in Seal Beach played host to the OC Orange Bowl presented by West Coast Elite as a tip off to AAU season. The event featured some of the top talent from Southern and Northern California. I was able to attend the event on Saturday March 26 and here’s a look at some additional standouts that I saw.

1. [player_tooltip player_id="994918" first="Devin" last="Curtis"] - Heritage Christian 2023

Curtis is a solid rim-running big man. He has good size and he runs the floor well. He uses his body well at the rim to create contact and he can draws fouls and get himself to the free-throw line. A good rebounder, he boxes out properly and pulls down boards with two hands. Good rebounder on the offensive glass; able to get tip-ins at the rim after missed shots.

2. Amarius Rowel - Independence 2025

Rowel stood out as a solid combo guard. He’s quick off the dribble and good ball-handler who can get into the paint. He’s comfortable getting his own shot, he can shoot off the dribble and create space to hit defenders with the little pull-up jumper. Able to get his spots on the court. He sees the floor well, finds open teammates in the half court.

3. [player_tooltip player_id="1380902" first="Varick" last="Lewis"] - Monterey Trail 2023

Lewis is flat-out scorer. He has a good step-back jumper in the halfcourt. He’s a good ball-handler and he’s quick and hits defenders with crafty moves to create space. He has a nice crossover too to get himself loose for a jumper. Able to post up against smaller guards. He pushes the pace well in transition. He’s a shooting guard, but he can find open teammates in the halfcourt.

4. [player_tooltip player_id="994920" first="Zack" last="Davidson"] - Mater Dei 2023

Davidson stood out for his ability to play off other scorers and move without the ball to get scoring opportunities. He’s effective and active around the rim with a soft touch. Can draw contact and get himself to the free-throw line. He plays well in the high post as a passer looking for teammates around the rim. Sets good screens. A good rebounder who throws good outlet passes after a board.
