<p>The opening round of the state tournament is full of excitement as teams are looking to advance to the quarterfinals. North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 was a prime example of that as players had big games to help their teams in a big way. Here are the top stock risers from the opening round of the North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 tournament.</p>
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1270515" first="Brandon" last="Dean"], 5’11 PG South Plainfield 2023</strong></p>
<p>Dean was clutch for the Tigers in the second half as he carried them on offense. The 5’11 guard has a quick first step, which he used to get to his spot on the floor. Dean has a good handle and shot the ball with confidence from distance. He made several good passes throughout the course of the game and slide his feet on the defensive end. Dean is a big-time scorer who should have more big scoring nights as the state tournament progresses.</p>
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1400482" first="Ahmad" last="Robertson"], 5’10 PG Snyder 2023</strong></p>
<p>Robertson was the offense for Snyder as he was so close to pulling off the big upset in the opening round. The 5’10 guard has a nice handle, which he used to get into the lane and finish around the basket. Robertson was unafraid of drawing contact and showed a nice release on his jumper. He was disruptive on the defensive end as he moved his feet and got deflections. Robertson is a quick floor general who should have a big senior season for Snyder.</p>
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1396263" first="Nasir" last="Bey"], 6’2 SG Belleville 2022</strong></p>
<p>Bey had a big opening round game as he dropped a game-high 27 points. The 6’2 guard was at his best attacking the basket as he finished through contact and was able to get into the lane consistently. Bey also showed his ability to knock down shots in the mid-range and got his teammates involved in the half court. He made plays on the defensive end as he finished with four steals and a pair of blocks. Bey is a hard-working guard prospect who is looking to continue his senior season in the state tournament.</p>
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1265911" first="Noah" last="Pit"], 6’7 SF Mendham 2022</strong></p>
<p>Pit has been having a strong senior season for Mendham and put it on display in the opening round of the state tournament. The 6’7 forward has a good shooting stroke and uses his size to elevate over smaller defenders. Pit finished around the basket nicely and does not mind drawing contact. He skied for rebounds on both ends of the floor and moved well without the ball in his hands. Pit is a skilled forward prospect who should continue to have a big state tournament for Mendham.</p>
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1396245" first="Justin" last="Vernieri"], SG Voorhees 2022</strong></p>
<p>Vernieri has been key for Voorhees all season long and it carried over into the state tournament. The senior guard paced the team with 17 points as he was able to get to his spot on the floor throughout the game. Vernieri does not mind contact and shot the ball with confidence. He fought for rebounds on both ends of the floor as he got his third straight double-double with 14 rebounds. Vernieri is a tough guard prospect who will do whatever it takes to help his team win.</p>
