Looking for the latest on the sectional playoffs in Minnesota? We got you covered in Minnesota Playoff Central!

Playoff Central. Tonight’s playoff listing is a huge night of quarterfinal games at the Mayo Civic Center as well as several first night contests in 5A, 6A, and 7A. There was a scattering of Class A and Class AA playoff games on Friday and Saturday but the first monster night across the state will be tomorrow night. The great thing is there is playoff basketball pretty much every day for the next three weeks!

Upset City. We’ve yet to see a big upset but we have seen some lower seeds knock off some higher seeds. Litchfield beat Paynesville in the 4/5 game, Dragons won 61-60. Another 4/5 "upset" was Westbrook-Walnut Grove over Murray County Central 52-47. Then we had the 8/9 game where GFW beat Sleepy Eye 52-35.

The Big Stage. Mayo Civic Center. Tonight the Southern Minnesota Basketball cathedral hosts the 1AA quarterfinal round games including Caledonia vs Triton, PEM vs Chatfield, Lake City vs Pine Island, and the big game between La Crescent and Lewiston-Atlura. Caledonia is a heavy favorite and Lake City should win their game, PEM takes on a couple solid scorers but is way deeper, and then we have that Lancers vs Cardinals contest.

Top Performers. Southwest Minnesota Christian Six-foot-6 2022 forward [player_tooltip player_id="958772" first="Carter" last="Van Hulzen"] scored 25 points including several rim rattling dunks. Van Hulzen and 6-7 junior Jarrett Kuipers make for a really tough front line while [player_tooltip player_id="958710" first="Micah" last="Schaap"] is the playmaker.

Senior Darrick Baartman had 23 for RTR while sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="1284129" first="Drew" last="Werkman"] had 18 points in their 78-52 win over Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda.

The biggest individual performance that I’ve seen so far from Friday/Saturday? The 31 points, 20 rebounds, 10 steals, and 6 assists that Ja’Sean Glover put up in a 78-39 win over Cleveland. Glover went over 3,000 points for his career becoming only the 13th player in state history to do that

Tip of the Hat to the Career. Alex Haag of Eden Valley-Watkins is a multi-year all league player that has been hitting shots for the Eagles at the arc for several years. Haag is also a standout defender and with his team’s two score loss to West Central Area, Haag’s team is out of the playoffs. Haag had a nine three point make game just over a week ago.
