THE MATCH-UPS

#1 ROFF (25-3) VS #6 STRINGTOWN (23-2)
Thursday - 2:00PM - Washington HS

HOW THEY GOT HERE

Roff: Top ranked Roff had to survive the area consolation final against Alex to punch their ticket to the state tournament. After being blown out by Duke on Monday by 22 points, the Tigers bounced back by beating Alex by 22 points on Tuesday night. Roff began the season 14-0 before losing their first game on January 18th to Madill. Before the loss to Duke, the Tigers hadn't lost to a Class B team all season. And they'll be confident coming into the first round clash with Stringtown after beating them 50-44 back on January 22nd.

Stringtown: Stringtown has been absolutely dominant in the playoffs this season. They won their five playoff games by an average margin of 35.4 points per game. The closest game came in the area final when they knocked off Buffalo Valley 58-51. Since that loss to Roff on January 22nd, the Tigers have won their last nine games. The only two blemishes on this year's schedule for Stringtown was the loss to Roff and then a December loss to Tushka, who made it to the Class A state tournament.

THE PLAYERS

Roff: Top ranked Roff might be holding on to the top spot for a while as they start four juniors and one senior. The Tigers have good size as well within their starters with four out of the five all over 6'0. Leading the way for the Tigers is 6'5 junior Tallen Bagwell. He's the spark to this Tiger offense and the only player averaging in double figures. Needless to say, this is a very defense-oriented team.

Stringtown: Stringtown will also remain in the mix after this season with their three leading scorers being a sophomore and two juniors. This high-scoring team is led by sophomore Keisean Shields, averaging 17 points per game. Juniors Keylon Shields and Christian Brutchin each average 14 and 11 points per game while they do have a senior in Trinyon Gaylor who is also in double figures.

HISTORY

Roff: For the tenth time in their history, Roff is headed back to the state tournament. It'll be the second straight year for the Tigers after making it all the way to the state title game a year ago before losing to Varnum, 61-56. The last two times Roff has been in the state tournament, they've made it all the way to the state championship game, winning it all in 2010.

Stringtown: For the first time since 2009, the Stringtown Tigers are headed to the state tournament. They made four straight trips from 2006-2009 but haven't been back since. During that four-year stretch, Stringtown won at least one game in each state tourney appearance, including a first round win over this year's opponent Roff in the 2009 tourney.

#2 MOUNTAIN VIEW-GOTEBO (26-0) VS #8 FORT COBB-BROXTON (24-6)
Thursday - 3:30PM - Washington HS

HOW THEY GOT HERE

Fort Cobb-Broxton: One of the best small school programs over the last decade has been Fort Cobb-Broxton. And this season, the Mustangs dropped down from Class A to Class B and the expectations didn't change. Fort Cobb would drop their first two games of the year but they would start really rolling after that. The Mustangs started hitting their stride late in the regular season and into the playoffs. They would have to bounce back after getting beat by Glencoe on Monday night. They did so on Tuesday with a 51-37 win over Earlsboro.

Mountain View-Gotebo: Mountain View-Gotebo is three wins away from a rare perfect season in Oklahoma high school basketball. And what makes them special is not only have they been perfect this year with a 26-0 record. They've been absolutely dominant throughout the season. They clinched their spot in the state tournament with a 20-point win over Leedey. Of their 26 victories, only 5 games were decided by single digits. And one of those 26 wins includes a 57-47 win over first round opponent Fort Cobb-Broxton back on January 22nd.

THE PLAYERS

Fort Cobb-Broxton: We're used to seeing Fort Cobb-Broxton in the state tournament every single season and you might go ahead and pencil them in for another trip next March. They start four juniors and a sophomore and the Mustangs should only be better next season. Their leading scorer is the sophomore Kray Rogers. Juniors Jaxon Willits and Ian Taylor each average in double figures as well.

Mountain View-Gotebo: Towering over everyone this weekend will be 6'9 senior Skyler Kimberlin, who leads Mountain View-Gotebo with 15.6 points per game. After that, they have a junior in Jagger Worley and sophomore Dalton Belcher who each average in double figures. Worley has decent size at 6'4 but the biggest key to their success has been Kimberlin throughout this undefeated run.

HISTORY

Fort Cobb-Broxton: Dropping down to Class B didn't change the fortune for Fort Cobb-Broxton in terms of punching their tickets to the state tournament. The Mustangs are back in the state tournament for the tenth consecutive season. After making five straight trips to the title game from 2015-2019, the Mustangs have dropped first round games in their last two appearances.

Mountain View-Gotebo: For the second time in school history, Mountain View-Gotebo is headed to the state tournament and it hasn't been a long time since their last trip. The first state tourney appearance came last year when they punched their ticket to the Class B state tournament. They would lose to eventual state champion Varnum in the first round.

#4 GLENCOE (27-2) VS LEEDEY (17-11)
Thursday - 7:00PM - Washington HS

HOW THEY GOT HERE

Glencoe: It's hard to argue any other team has a better offense than Glencoe coming into the state tournament. The Panthers have absolutely lit up scoreboards all across Oklahoma this season. They've scored more than 100 points on nine occasions. You can make the argument that Glencoe might have the best scoring offense in the state, regardless of class. And they punched their ticket to the state tourney with a dominating 19-point win over perennial powerhouse Fort Cobb-Broxton on Monday night. The Panthers are rolling into OKC.

Leedey: The Leedey Bison are certainly the underdogs coming into this week in Oklahoma City. The Bison are the only unranked team to make it to the state tournament and they had to do some damage in the playoffs to get here. They beat the #7, #10 and #15 teams in Class B to clinch their spot in the state tournament. Now, the focus is on making the most of this opportunity and winning three straight games to capture a title. But for a Leedey team that's been up and down all year, they've only won three straight games on two occasions. Luckily, one of those was in the playoffs.

THE PLAYERS

Glencoe: With that high-scoring offense, it's no surprise that all five starters average in double figures for the Panthers. Leading the way is junior Jaken Weedn at 17.3 points per game. This is a Glencoe team that is explosive but also has a mix of youth and experience. Seniors Brad Reeves and Jordon Beaver average 15 and 10 points respectively. Junior Tre' Speer averages 12 along with freshman Jaxton Weedn at 12 points per game.

Leedey: The Bison might be underdogs coming into this week but they'll be one of the top teams in Class B moving into next season. They're led by a dynamic sophomore in big man Luke Puffinbarger. The 6'5 standout averages nearly 16 points per game. Their top three scorers consist of two sophomores and a junior. The Bison should be a team to watch moving forward but are they ready to make noise now?

HISTORY

Glencoe: The Panthers are back into the state tournament for the first time since 2019. The Panthers are playing in their 11th state tournament in school history. In six of their previous ten appearances, the Panthers would make it all the way to the state championship game. Glencoe is a rare program where they make it to the title game more times than not.

Leedey: The Leedey Bison are back in the state tournament for the 20th time in school history. However, the Bison missed out on a trip to the Big House last year, snapping a streak of five consecutive state tournament appearances. In their last state tourney appearance, the Bison made it all the way to the state championship game before losing to Duke.

#5 DUKE (24-4) VS #14 BUFFALO VALLEY (21-7)
Thursday - 8:30PM - Washington HS

HOW THEY GOT HERE

Buffalo Valley: Buffalo Valley had to bounce back after losing to Stringtown on Monday night. They had the task of facing #3 Pittsburg in the area consolation final and punched their ticket with a 45-37 victory. They certainly had some momentum going into the match-up after beating Pittsburg in the regional title game earlier in February. It has certainly been a bumpy season for the Buffaloes but they appear to be playing some of their best basketball right now, which is exactly what you want when you turn the calendar to March.

Duke: The Duke Tigers are back in the state tournament and made quite the statement on Monday night to punch their ticket to Oklahoma City. In the area final, Duke beat top ranked Roff 43-21 to solidify their spot in the state tourney. It was also their fifth straight victory, all coming in the playoffs after losing to Mountain View-Gotebo in the regular season finale. The Tigers have to be feeling confident as they go into the state tourney following their win over Roff on Monday night. And after missing state last year, the Tigers appear to be hungry.

THE PLAYERS

Buffalo Valley: The player averaging the most points coming into the state tourney is Buffalo Valley junior Jace Hunter at 21.5 points per game. Buffalo Valley is certainly a team to watch moving forward with four juniors and a sophomore in their starting lineup. In addition to Hunter, they also have juniors Brendon Champlin and Zane Collins, who each average 13.5 points per game.

Duke: The 1-2 punch of sophomore Lane Womack and junior Aaron Wright has been a problem for opponents all season and will be in the future as well. They both average 16 points per game and lead the Tigers into the state tourney. Also helping the Tigers is senior Bryson Dill and sophomore Morgan Reynolds, who have each averaged nearly 10 points per game this season.

HISTORY

Buffalo Valley: Out of the eight state tournament teams this year, the longest state tourney drought being snapped goes to Buffalo Valley. For the first time since 2004, the Buffaloes are headed to the state tournament. In their one other trip back in 2004, Buffalo valley was one and done, losing to Calumet in the first round. They're hoping for a longer trip this time around.

Duke: After capturing the 2020 Class B state championship, the Tigers missed out on defending their crown in the state tournament a year ago. However, for the 12th time in school history and the fourth time in the last five years, Duke is back into the state tourney. Before winning it all in 2020, Duke had seven straight state tournaments end with a first round exit.
