Millard North 62 – Elkhorn South 50

This was a much closer game than most people may have expected it to be. Elkhorn South (and their enormous student section) brought the energy from start to finish. Unfortunately for the Storm, [player_tooltip player_id="787647" first="Jasen" last="Green"] arrived at Pinnacle Bank Arena with an intent to destroy. The Creighton commit racked up 20 points, 14 rebounds, 7 blocks, 2 assists, and 2 steals. His presence inside early scared off the Elkhorn South guards from even looking at the basket. This allowed Millard North to put a ton of pressure on the ball and deny, knowing that they had an all-world rim protector to bail them out if they were beaten.

Despite Green’s dominance, [player_tooltip player_id="1235586" first="Henry" last="Burt"] did make him work for those points in the halfcourt. The Elkhorn South big did work early to move him off the block and keep him off the glass when possible. Burt scored 12 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 2 assists. [player_tooltip player_id="1235940" first="Alec" last="Noonan"] had a slow start but finished with 16 points. A few late threes from him helped ignite mini-runs, which Millard North was able to end quickly.

[player_tooltip player_id="1018812" first="David" last="Harmon"] was another slow-starter, but the Millard North microwave scorer totaled 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Harmon got to the rim at will with his shiftiness and explosion in tight areas.

Gretna 67 – Omaha Central 65

The double-overtime thriller was a back-and-forth affair throughout. The game appeared out of reach for Omaha Central late in the fourth quarter. After leading 30-28 at halftime, the Eagles were held to five points through a quarter and a half and found themselves down 13 with about four minutes to play. When the Eagles put on the full-court pressure and shots began to fall, Omaha Central ripped off a 15-0 run to take the lead back late. Both overtimes were played dead even, but it was [player_tooltip player_id="1131118" first="Alex" last="Wilcoxson"]’s clutch free-throw shooting that put away the Eagles.

For Omaha Central, [player_tooltip player_id="890569" first="PJ" last="Davis"] bounced back from a disappointing district finals performance and put up 19 points on 7-12 FG. [player_tooltip player_id="1052925" first="J’Dyn" last="Bullion"] will beat himself up over a late turnover in the second overtime, but his impact down the stretch was fuel for the Eagles comeback. He finished with 11 points, 8 crucial rebounds, and 4 steals.

Not enough can be said about Gretna's [player_tooltip player_id="1131116" first="Landon" last="Pokorski"] and his performance Tuesday afternoon. He scored 25 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. The sophomore was in control from start to finish. After giving up the 15-0 run, it was Pokorski who steadied the ship, took control, and scored tough finish after tough finish. You’d think he was a senior if today was your first time watching the young point guard.
