Garrett Osborne Garrett Osborne 6'3" | SG Redmond | 2022 State OR (2022 Redmond)
Osborne was an offensive machine in the quarterfinals for the Panthers, who comfortably beat Ashland thanks to the do-it-all senior’s game-high 28 points. A 6-foot-3 combo guard, Osborne scored the ball in a variety of ways, hitting a wild three-pointer at the halftime buzzer in addition to going 9-for-10 from the foul line.
Egan Shields Egan Shields 6'10" | C Colorado Prep | 2023 CO (2022 Ashland)
At 6-foot-10, Shields was a force to be reckoned with inside and out for the Grizzlies. The junior big poured in 16 points, including two three-pointers. Furthermore, Shields hauled in five rebounds and blocked two shots for the eighth-seeded Grizzlies, who struggled to find production elsewhere.
Jordan McCarty Jordan McCarty 6'0" | CG Silverton | 2022 State OR (2022 Silverton)
For a Silverton team that needed big shots all night to fend off upset-hungry Crescent Valley, McCarty delivered, burying two threes on his way to 16 huge points. The senior guard was also a capable facilitator, dishing out four assists in a game dominated by defense.
Ryan Redman-Brown (2022 Silverton)
In a high-stakes, back-and-forth battle between MWC teams, perhaps no player was as impactful as Redman-Brown, who shot 7-for-12 on his way 16 points. Moreover, the senior forward was the defensive MVP of the ballgame, tallying four blocks and two steals against Crescent Valley’s talented frontcourt.
Jake Leibelt Jake Leibelt 6'5" | PF Crescent Valley | 2022 State OR (2022 Crescent Valley)
Leibelt was certainly the most impactful Raider of the afternoon, recording a team-high in points, rebounds, and assists (14, 9, 4). A tough presence inside, the senior also stepped out to knock down two threes on three attempts in the dramatic quarterfinal loss.
Tristan Davis Tristan Davis 6'8" | PF Lakeridge | 2023 State OR (2023 Wilsonville)
Davis got things going early for the Wildcats, scoring nine of his 13 points in the first half. At 6-foot-7, the junior big had Crater’s frontcourt significantly outmatched physically, and was able to power in numerous buckets early to set the tone. Additionally, Davis was efficient from outside, knocking down two of his three three-point attempts.
Maxim Wu Maxim Wu 6'0" | PG Wilsonville | 2023 State OR (2023 Wilsonville)
Wu, one of the Wildcats lead guards, was notably efficient in their quarterfinal win. For a squad that had five guys in double figures, Wu scored 12 on 4-for-4 shooting, In addition, Wu was obviously one of the best perimeter defenders of the day, using tremendous quickness to keep Crater’s talented guards in front of him.
Caden Lasater (2022 Crater)
After trailing by double digits for large portions of the second half, the Comets stormed back late in the fourth quarter largely thanks to the three-point sniping of Lasater. The senior guard buried four of his five three-point attempts, two of which helped Crater claw back into the contest late.
Samaje Morgan Samaje Morgan 5'9" | PG Churchill | 2022 State OR (2022 Churchill)
The MVP of day one certainly goes to Morgan, who posted a standout double-double of 38 points and 10 assists for the second-seeded Lancers. In short, the senior point guard took the game by the throat. His 38 points was just five short of the state tournament record, and 24 of those came in the first half alone. As always, an impressive combination of quickness, ball-handling, and basketball I.Q. made Morgan a handful all night.
Cooper Case (2022 Churchill)
Case, a 6-foot-4 combo forward for the Lancers, was Morgan’s go-to guy, particularly in the second half. The senior scored off several assists from the Lancer point guard, and did so in an efficient fashion. He shot 8-for-10 from the field on his way to 16 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks for the semifinal-bound Lancers.
Tommy Johnson (2022 Eagle Point)
For an Eagle Point team that struggled at times offensively, Johnson was consistently tough inside. At 6-foot-2, the senior is undersized for a big, but makes up for it with tremendous strength and hustle. He scored 11 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out three assists for the seventh-seeded Eagles.
