Continue ReadingFebruary is officially upon us and this means we are entering the back half of conference play for most teams, as well as entering into the most difficult stretch of the season where wins and losses truly matter the most. During this part of the season, great teams separate themselves and rise to the top while internal struggles or other issues can force weaker teams to sink heading into the end of the season. Overall, there have been a lot of really strong performances from across the state recently with a lot of individual players showing that they have what it takes to play at the next level. Continue reading for a look at some of the top individual performances recently in the state of Idaho.
Genesis Prep vs. Wallace: Genesis Prep stormed away with a quality win over Wallace recently during their conference opener in north Idaho’s Scenic Idaho Conference. Genesis Prep got a boost from a couple of great individual performances which led to a lot of success for the entire team. The Genesis Prep Jaguars were led by Ayson Mcluskie scoring 16 points on a hot shooting night. Ayson scored in a variety of ways from the field and also did an excellent job of being a pest on the defensive end to force Wallace into unnecessary turnovers. Genesis Prep also got some much needed help from Joey Specht chipping in 12 points and a commanding 8 point and 10 rebound performance from Caleb Schroeder. Schroeder hit the boards hard on both ends of the floor all night and did a great job defensively of keeping Wallace out of the paint.
St. Maries vs. Sandpoint: St. Maries was able to pull off a non-conference victory over Sandpoint recently in a game that featured opponents from different classifications as well. St. Maries continues to show why they are defending state champions and they are looking really strong heading into the state tournament coming up shortly. St. Maries was led by a strong performance from Tristan Gentry-Nelson Tristan Gentry-Nelson 6'5" | C St. Maries | 2022 State ID -Nelson who scored 20 points from all over. In addition, Gentry-Nelson also grabbed 9 rebounds and dished out 4 assists to truly fill out the stat sheet. Gentry-Nelson also got help from Colby Renner scoring 10 points and making a big impact on the game when the lead was small. Sandpoint was led by Ethan Butler Ethan Butler 6'5" | C Sandpoint | 2022 State ID scoring 17 points on a strong shooting night with few open looks.
